Random sleep mode after Mountain Lion install

I have the same problem with a brand new Macbook Air with very little on it. But one interesting thing is that the problem seems to have started after installing Caffeine.

I later found out later that Caffeine doesn't work in ML according to the following:

I installed Caffeine because I lost a remote connection when I left the MB for a while and had previously installed it on an old MB with Snow Leopard where it worked with no problem.

So could it be that installing Caffeine has messed up some internal settings on the MBA and despite removing it I still have the problem? If so removing Caffeine and resintalling ML (sledge hammer to crack a nut, I know!) might fix the problem. But if you have re-installed ML and kept Caffeine then perhaps that is causing the problem to persist. I will try the ML re-install and report back.

Got rid of Caffeine, re-installed ML and this appears to have resolved the problem. No random sleep issues in the past 24 hours - so far so good.

I'm experiencing the same issue here, althought not so oft. maybe once a week.

I updated from Lion to ML & use MBP 2009

Like many of you, I am also experiencing this problem. I have a late 2011 iMac. I have not yet established a pattern for causing this problem. When it does occur, it occurs shortly after we take the iMac out of sleep mode. I was hoping that with the installation of 10.8.2 ML update, this problem would go away. But no such luck. I assume this is a lower priority software problem for Apple since it is random and the user just has to re-wake up the computer so the workaround is not a heavy burden on the user. I'm sure they'll provide a fix but it may be a while.

Happens to me as well, but only after I installed Mountain Lion. It's annoying to say the least since it takes mine about 15-20 to awake. I'm driving a MacBook Air that I purchased in March 2011. I hope someone comes up with a fix. Again, it's very annoying.

This happens so far only when it falls asleep with the lid opened. I'll hit a key and it wakes, then goes back to sleep within a few seconds if not immediately after waking up. I will not be reinstalling ML over itself at the moment. I just did a fresh install last week.

This started occuring with the last 3 days. Very peculiar.

Next:

-Reset PRAM

-Reset SMC

I'll chime in if this fixes it. I'm going to try to recreate it.

Same issue. Wastes a lot of time. Sometimes takes 5 minutes to get laoptop to stay awake. For the most part it will stay awake once I get it warmed up.

Screen will also just go black, but still have cursor can move with mouse, but nothing to click on.

Basically I just close and reopen screen over and over until starts working.

13' Mid 2012 model. OS X 10.8.2

I have a Retina MBP and I am experiencing this problem. Also happens on my new i7 13" macbook air.

I'd love to see Microsoft get away with providing this kind of buggy, crappy software. If Windows has any issues whatsoever everyone on the internet flips out. If OS X has any issues, Mac users sit here and try to justify why a company with 130 billion dollars cash in the bank isn't fixing it.

I would like state that after doing an SMC reset and NV-Ram reset on my MBP, the problem has not resurfaced.

SMC Reset:

Power off

unplug power adapter

Command+Option+Power for a few seconds

Release

Power on

NV Ram:

Power off

Command + Option + P + R, hold while powering on

Will reboot during power on. Wait until second Apple appears before releasing

machine often goes back to sleep within a minute (usually ten seconds or so) after waking from sleep.

I have the same problem on 2 macs. One is a MacBook AIR that came pre-installed with Mountain Lion. The other is a MBP on which I upgraded to Mountain Lion.

Same issure here! It's REALLY FRUSTRATING! I cannot understand how Apple is simply ignoring this problem that it's affecting so many macs and not finding a fix. This is the second new MBA 13'' (October) that I'm getting and that is experiencing the same prob! I had alerady gotten a new one in Sep, MBA had this same issue, I took it to a retailed store and they promised me that mine was defective and that a new one would solve the problem. So I returned that one, placed a new order, and waited for a new one to later on find out that it would do the exact same thing. What should I do now? should I replace it again? at least the second one does it at a lower frequency (every 4 days instead of 2). I'm really hoping that one of the Apple geniuses sees this and tells us all what to do!

BTW, it's becoming more and more frequent!

Is anyone using Better Touch tool? After disabling it I no longer have the issue.

I am not using Better Touch on either of my macs.
