Random sleep mode after Mountain Lion install

I had this isssue as well on MBA 13" (September). A couple of weeks ago I have turned off the screen saver and no issue since then. The screen goes to sleep after 5 minutes, but without the screen saver.

I updated to Mountain Lion on August 6th. - Early 2011 MacBook Pro, i7 2.2, 8 GB, and have consistently installed updates and am now up to OSX 10.8.2

Ever since ML I've had a somewhat similar issue to what's described here.

In my case, I'll unplug my MacBook (which is sleeping) and go sit on the couch... MB wakes up just fine and I log in on the mainscreen and get about 10 secs of 'on' time before it goes back to sleep. Hitting random keys on the keyboard usually has it fire up to the mainscreen where I have to log in again... but no more issues. About one time in 10, I have to hard boot.

No consistency as to what programs are running, although more often than not Chrome is open.

If I leave it plugged in, I can use it forever, but unplugging it results in sleep after about 10 seconds.

Haven't really seen any benefit updating to ML, and am very happy thus far I have not installed it on my iMac.

My Late 2011 15" MBP (i7) does this to a certain extent. If I put the computer to sleep (or shut the lid) and then try to wake it before the computer is officially in sleep mode (glowing light on front), the screen comes on, goes off, and then comes back on. What I've noticed is that putting the computer to sleep takes over a minute, possibly 2 or 3, to go to sleep. So if I need to use it again before it's sleeping, this is when it exhibits the odd behavior. The computer immediately went to sleep running Lion, but now takes a while which is why this has become an issue. -- I'd like the computer to go to sleep immediately because I don't feel comfortable throwing it in my bag until it's asleep and having to wait is a pain.

Having the same issue since I updated with ML.

Just as I told in a previous post. Reinstall ML over the one that you have, that solved my problem forever.

Just did it.

After the reinstall, the OS could not start. I am blocked on a white screen, with the Apple logo and a Spin logo for the past two hours.

I am currently trying to reinstall a second time...

Any idea?

Yes I did try a second time and not the installation does not complete and I have an error: "Blabla could not install the OS, contact apple etc.."

Yes I made a Carbon Copy Cloner backup but when I try to boot on my hard drive using ALT and then choosing my external hard drive it still stuck on the screen: Apple + spin loading..

Any idea?

Hmmmm, nothing I can help more than resetting your SMC and PRAM. If you don't know how, google those two terms, do those resettings then try installing again.

However, could it be really a problem that you might really need to claim a fix by Apple?

I had the same issue with a new MB Pro. I noticed that my screen save start time and computer sleep time were set to 10mins. After I changed the screen saver start time to a value below the computer sleep time, the issue has gone away.

I'm getting this issue on my 13" MBA 2013 (Haswell). When I wake up the MBA the screen just goes black all of a sudden, within 2-5 seconds of the computer being awaken from sleep mode. No specific widgets or anything of that sort.

This is pretty annoying, and it looks like it's been around for a while now. Should I take it in to Apple Care? The laptop is literally 2 weeks old, and it's disconcerting to see a year old problem still on the new generation units.

I have had variations on this issue since install however, with the last apple update(10.8.4) it got even stranger. Randomly, when I wake from sleep it will go to the gray(carbon fiber)background like when you are restarting, you must put the login, and password in there. Then it takes you to the galaxy wallpaper which was default before you changed the wallpaper, with just the password then all is normal. Randomly it will take me to both of those screens so I must put the password in twice, or sometimes only once. I have tried many things, but what seems to be a common theme, is if I turn wi-fi off before I put the mac to sleep it will not exhibit this behavior. Which makes me think it has something to do with power sleep, or something. If I don't have mail open, or any program open when I put it to sleep does not seem to make a difference, only turning wi-fi on or not.

If anyone can answer why this should make a difference, let me know. I think it is a mountain lion software bug. I have tried deleting preferences, resetting pram, and the smc. Most times it only does it using one user account, but it will do it in safe mode, and other user account randomly if wi-fi is open when I put the laptop to sleep. Everything works normal after I input the password, just frustrating I have to put the password in twice.

Well I have had this problem with my 13inch Macbook Air 2012 for now 1 year. I did a reinstall from a USB flash drive and the machine has been move stable after that. It has not fixed the problem all together as I still get odd random behaviour after sleep. I think this is more to do with the SSD and I bet most of the people having this issue have a 256GB SSD. I have the same 13inch MBA 2012 in 128GB that does not have any of these problems. It could be software of hardware I have no clue.

I have had the same problem for awhile. mid 2012 MBP. It's annoying. Reset SMC and PRAM. No effect.
