I had similar problems: battery wouldnt hold charge, couldn't turn phone off and sound would intermittantly switch to "Dock port" while using headphones. I tried all the tricks above and the only thing that worked was replacing the docking port. Phone was used and out of warranty so $10 for a new battery, port and tool + youtube tutorials and 40 minutes of "don't lose a screw or break a connector" later my problem was solved! Thanks for the info!

Okay so i had the same problem i researched a couple of times but nothing works because its a hardware problem take it to apple store to replace because they don't fix it or if you want solutions here is one that worked with people, clean the dock with a dry tooth brush or something similar because short circuit is bad for iPhone. I had the same problem and my solution was leaving it for 1-2 days and it fixed itself.

hi all I had similar probs to all the above posts.

wont shut down, restarts, only turns off when plugged in,no audio.

this worked for me after cleaning sync port,i let the battery totally die,i just happened to put the phone on a iluv radio/clock to charge.

woke up and everything appears to be working...and turning off, battery back to usual 2 day without charge.

maybe this will work with some of yours???

All,

I had the same problems with my 4s---the phone would not shut off AND the battery discharged rapidly (like 100% to 0% in 3 hours). Also the phone was exhibiting other weird power behavior like once it got to ~20% it would instantly jump to ~2%. Based on what I read here I concluded that some of the pins of the 'docking connector' (the connector on the bottom, used for charging) were either bent and touching each other, and/or that somehow they were shorting out because of corrosion, grime, etc. I tried cleaning the connector with a new toothbrush which did not help at all. So I took the phone to a local cell phone repair place and had the docking connector replaced ($69) and now the phone now works perfectly, it shuts off fine and stays charged for days.

wonderful. i read everyones notes about the fact that you would shut off your Iphone but it would just turn itself back on. I read through about 20 or so suggestions and none worked. then i happened across a suggestion by someone i wish i could thank.....they said go to settings>notifications and go all the way to the bottom and you will see "government notificaions, amber alerts and shut both off. I did and it WORKED! try it, it will likely work for you. when i turn it off, it stays off.

thank you whoever you are.
