iCloud mail is down AGAIN

I am NOT a happy camper, Apple - can't get email once again because iCloud Mail is down. Again.

Fix it. Get it right. When I read that it affects only a "small number" of users that means nothing. I'm ALWAYS ONE OF THOSE AFFECTED.

Sorry for the shouting - I haven't had my coffee yet.

Grrrr.

Sydney....no service for 24 hours....this is far bigger than they are letting on....and the 1% is a joke....when this is all said and done I hope they can explain why it has taken so long to fix and how they have estimated the 1%...most people I know who have an iCloud account have been affected.

Notice that they have moved the next update staus now from 23:00 PDT tp I:00 PDT....I suppose at least the updates are getting more frequent...they've been every three hours and now two hours....hooray for small steps forward!

Yet still no word from Apple themselves!

Looks like I'm able to send mail now but what happened to the mail that I "think" i received today?? so far my inbox looks exactly like it did yesterday and I'm positive I should've received email today, particulalry all the test emails I sent myself from my working email accounts. Does that mean all the emails from today are lost in the cloud???

Can't access iCloud email either from Mail.app or the website for the past 12+ hours. SE Asia.

So much for my plan to eventially ditch gmail - that's not gonna happen now. Gmail never had an outage this long in the entire 9 years I've been using it.

Can Apple please spend some of its immense cash hoard to get some people who know what they're doing on the server side? It would seem there need to be multiple redundant systems in place which are independent from one another so that the mail service can keep running...

I'm in Los Angeles, California have not received any e-mail for over 24 hours. Very disappointed in iCloud. I never had any problem like this with Mobile Me. I need to figure out a way to get my me.com e-mail somehow to my other servers like yahoo or hotmail for future. I can understand if server is down for 1 hour or so but over 24 hours is not acceptable. Or maybe I need to just use iCloud as a middle man and switch my main e-mail address to hotmail and forward it to iCloud so that all my iPad, iPhone and Computer will always be in sync? Anyone with ideas?

Sep 11, 2012 11:55 PM in response to PatsyKB51

I have learned something today and that is ASAP doesn't mean 24 hours because that's how long i've been without email (although i'm a loner and probably don't have emails to speak of, but still)

The "asap" portion of the satus updates is what kills me the most. While i understand giving folks ANY sort of time frame would be a bullseye (if not met all **** would break loose) keeping folks in the dark exacerbates the issue. I'm an adult give me a "ball park" at least I'll know you're trying.

Oh and hey if you're going to truely update the status update page don't repost the same message i've read all day.... Still getting a Ip5 HOLLA

Sep 12, 2012 12:18 AM in response to PatsyKB51

Let us assume for a moment that "asap" means "as soon as possible," and mail being brought back up is just not possible now.

Were I to place a bet, the issue is more widespread than a simple server and its contingency setup. Contingency plans only work if the contingency setup is unaffected; therefore, it is probably a lot more widespread than a simple server. The increasing "1.1% affected" number reflects that circumstance nicely. If it was one server, the number would doubtfully increase; however, since the % of affected has increased in the past 24 hours, my guess is the contingency setup has downed as well.

Like all of you, my e-mail has been down all day as well. It ***** but it should be back up tomorrow. That said, Gmail (my other provider) is not blameless either, and has had multiple outages in the past few months, few have been over several hours.

It's Wednesday September 12 and still no iCloud mail for me and many others.

Let's hope some members of the press covering the "It's almost here" Apple event today are also affected and that at least one of them has the guts to heckle Tim Cook over this iCloud fiasco (instead of drooling over a new phone).

Walt Mossberg, I'm counting on you!

A while ago British Rail worked out that they were never going to stop having delays to their service - but they could improve their comunication to fare paying pasengers when delays ocurred. A simple tactic - be upfront and honest.

Outcome - British Rail customer satisfaction went up and complaints plummeted. But guess what stayed the same . . . delays to their service!

Moral of the story - tell the truth, provide plenty of information and provide it regularly. Nobody expects a fault free service - but we do mind when we treated like second class citizens.

I've just called Apple Care and asked to file a formal complaint. I'm now waiting for an e-mail. I've also sent an e-mail directly to Tim Cook. The odds are he won't even read it and that it'll be trashed by some assistant to an assistant, but I think everyone with complains in this thread should try to file an official complain.

Ranting in web forums is good 'cause you know you're not alone, but the only way for these people to pay any attention is to increase the negative feedback they receive.

I'm not even on the paid version of iCloud, but the distress this has caused me is beyond what I ever thought that being 1 day without email would cause. The fear of having lost money and work... argh! I can only imagine how infuriating it must be for paying customers!

We need to let Apple know we're not happy. It may just be worth the 5 minutes it takes to write an email or call Apple Care. They cannot leave customers in the dark. It's not something as trivial as Apps not pushing to mobile devices. It's a basic service that millions of people are relying on!

Bergen County, NJ - STILL DOWN!!!!!!!!! This is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! It's STILL DOWN with an update scheduled for 4pm PST today on the 12th!!!!?????? Are they kidding us???

I have never experienced such incompetence. They charged me 73 bucks yesterday in order to speak to a technical advisor because I did not have Apple Care. I reluctantly/desperately paid the premium, was transferred to the Tech Advisor who casually told me "Oh, yes the problem is on Apple's iCloud Server - affecting less than 1% of iCloud users. We are sorry for any inconvenience. Here's the link (www.blah blah blah), you can follow up on the restoration". How despicable and unethical. I will dispute that charge today!

I wonder if because they mention it ONLY affects 1.1% of iCloud users, this is in fact NOT a priority??

iCloud - what a perfect name for this iCloudy show...

So disappointing, you are, Apple. On to gmail account set up, NOW...

I have experienced outages before but never to this degree. It has now been over 24 hours and the only respose from Apple is the annoying message on their web site. Their support staff are unable or unwilling to provide any further information. As a shareholder and owner of everything Apple I am extremely disappointed in their level of service. Today is a big day for you AAPL - for me, this puts a cloud (no pun intended) over the new releases. At a mnimum you owe us an explanation and an ETA.
