ios 6 stuck and Frozen

Both my ipad and my iphone are stuck on a screen that shows an update progress bar that isn't moving.

The download happened. This is in the installation phase. What to do? Both devices are frozen. Scared to force a restart.

I'm having the same problem. I'm using a brand new MacBook Pro with Retina Display, with a wired cable internet connection (via the ethernet dongle). I'm trying to update an iPhone 4S and it is taking FOREVER. I am still on the downloading phase, and it has been stuck on "4 hours remaining" for the past four hours. I just timed how long it took to download 1 MB of the new software. It took 1 minute and 20 seconds! Even if that speeds up to 1 minute per MB, I still have over 600 MBs to go!

600 minutes is a long, long time ....

Help?

My 4s phone has frozen in the middle of the install. The download froze in the middle but refreshed the bar and completed in about 30 mins. The phone then shut down to install and was about 25% through when I had to leave my wifi. Assuming that the download portion had been completed, I took my phone with me and plugged it in when I arrived. It has had no progress ever since (about 5 hours). I'm scared to try to hard boot it but don't know what to do. Any suggestions? Help!

After letting it sit for 6 hours with no progress (on the black apple screen with a bar) I decided to do something. I held down the top button and the front button for 15 seconds. It restarted and opened back to the apple page with a bar. It loaded within a minute with the IOS 6 front page. No idea what was wrong but now its working! Hope this helps someone...

Guys dont worry, i found out how to fix it! Ok, this is only for people who have FROZEN installation bars, not screens that say connect to itunes. So if your iphone is frozen, unplug the wire and hold down the lock and home button until it restarts. Next, when it turns back on it should return to the installation screen, just reconnect it to your laptop and it will install in a matter of seconds. I hope it solves your problem as it did mine.

Total crash and burn on 6.0 upgrade. Stuck on progress bar and never got past it after two restores and trying all the suggestions above. On the first go around waited for over an hour. Finally went back to 5.1.1 - all better now (3 hours later.) Recommend going to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808?viewlocale=en_US if you're totally stuck and http://osxdaily.com/2010/10/25/download-iphone-firmware-ipsw/ to download the iOS file. Good luck all!
