New Maps App on iOS 6 - poor resolution?

Is it just me, or is the Satellite image resolution unusably low in the new maps app?

In major UK cities its ok (but not great) but in a large town (pop 400k+) it's terrible.

What's your experience?

iPhone 4S, Other OS, iOS 6

It's quite rubbish in the UK.

Lots of it in black and white or very low-res.

My home town (pop. 25k) is labelled about a mile North of where it should be, and a sub-district of my home town is in the place of the center of my town!

Apple has ALOT of work to do before iOS 6 Maps is anything like the quality of Google Maps.

The 3D Maps in big cities are impressive though - shame I don't live in one.

Agree. Huge retrograde step; resolution is awful. This has prompted me for the very first time to log on and comment on this forum. Fortunately, I have only "upgraded" to iOS 6 on my iPad, not my iPhone. Will not upgrade the 'phone until Apple makes this essential application at least as good as Google Maps. Samsung Galaxy is looking tempting...

Just looking at the comments and I have to say I agree that the new map application is just not fit for purpose.

I travel all over the uk regularly and used the previous maps program religiously when on unknown territory.

the new app is a nightmare to use as the resolution is so rediculously poor it negates the overall improvements in functionality. when will Apple learn that style and funtionallity is all well and good but without a decent navigation and imagery database backing up the app it is a total own goal because the new app is all style with no substance. Bring back the native GoogleMaps!!!

I have just taken the above advice and posted a feedback to Apple, I concur with Julian. the more negative feed back Apple get the more likely it is they will do something.

Tha said I came across an article online earlier today that quoted a company called WAZE who also produce a mapping/gps app and were a development parner with Apple on this map app. They have publicly dis-owned it as in thier opinion it is substandard and not fit for purpose as the mapping data is based on the cheapest package Apple could find and licence, in this case TomTom.

I too am unhappy with this Apple Maps. I find it very amusing that the Maps data is provided by TomTom. LOL. That right there should answer the question as to why its so horrible. Seriously Apple?

Not to sidetrack this but wanted to add that the auto brightness issue and the fact that Apple still cant get the ringtone volume right (been messed up since 5.0.1) has me ticked off as well. Not going to update the wife's 4s yet.

Not very happy today Apple.
