wifi sync not working after ios6 update

Is anyone else having this problem. I updated to iOS 6 today on my iPhone 4s, everything else is working just fine, but wifi-sync isn't working, my phone doesn't appear in itunes until i plug it into my computer. Anyone have any ideas?

I was having this same problem, and noticed in iTunes that my iPhone was not indicated when on wifi. I connected with the cord, and went to the sync options at the bottom of the Summary tab. I unclicked the "Sync with this iphone over wifi" option and hit apply. I then clicked on the "Sync with this iphone over wifi" and hit apply. Now it works fine and connects to my iPhone over wifi. Hopefully this will work for other people.

After sending a group of diagnostic files to Apple Tech Support, I just got off the return phone call and was told the following:

"iTunes will not support wifi sync on a Windows computer connected to the Ethernet port of the wifi router, that it will only work reliably if the PC is actually using wifi.

Going to go grab a wifi card and see 👿

This answer from the Support is complete ********. How they explain that MAC Users have the same problem? With iOS 5 everything worked Perfect on Windows 7 and with a Router in the background and since the Update to iOS 6 it doesnt work anymore. My Sisters has a Mac Book with a direct wifi Connection and there it also doesnt work since the Update to ios6.

Yes, this is the case for me as well. Sometimes I will plug and unplug with USB to the computer multiple times and it will work on a subsequent attempt, but it pretty much always works if I click the synch button. How about this one: I had my old iPhone 4 plugged into the computer and showing in iTunes and then unplugged it and plugged it into power to see if it would wifi synch and it didn't. When I tried to manually synch from the computer, it searched and then quit and then the phone disappeared from the display! This is after it was just plugged in. I shut down iTunes and restarted wifi and then started iTunes and everything (3 devices) came back and the same iPhone 4 auto synched while plugged into power.

For the most part, the device name change worked, but it still requires frequent and inconsistent restarts of iTunes and wifi, and it is very odd that actually plugging directly into the computer often requires a manual synch start.Devices come and go from iTunes and it is definitely not consistent, but it is almost always possible to get things to work. I have also experienced iTunes locking up trying to find devices and I've had to force kill it and sometimes reboot. It is all a bit ridiculous and is definitely diminishing my respect for A products in general...

After hearing this news I was so angry had to drive to BB to pick up a wifi card just to cool off 😁

However my devices are showing up in iTunes at the moment with the PC running on the wifi network with the IOS devices, and home sharing of videos from the PC's library to the IOS devices and Apple TV which iTunes 11 also broke are working at the moment as well.

But due to how intermittent this problem can be, im not calling this a fix by any means. And since wifi sync hooked to the Ethernet port worked fine before 10.7 and IOS 6 and Home Sharing before iTunes 11 me thinks Apple still has a problem to fix.

One other thing that helped some on Windows 7 if your using the Windows Firewall:

(From Appletoolbox.com)

It has also been reported that Windows Firewall may have prevented the Wi-Fi sync. You need to make sure that “SyncServer.exe”, which coordinates the synchronization processes, is allowed. To do this: Control Panel > Windows Firewall > Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall; Look for “SyncServer” in the list, if it is not there, select “Change Settings” then “Allow another program” > Click “Browse
” > Find “C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\SyncServer.exe”. Restart iTunes and your iPod / iPhone / iPad should appear in iTunes.
