wifi sync not working after ios6 update

Is anyone else having this problem. I updated to iOS 6 today on my iPhone 4s, everything else is working just fine, but wifi-sync isn't working, my phone doesn't appear in itunes until i plug it into my computer. Anyone have any ideas?

Sheff Tom,

I too had the same problem but found a fix. 🙂

1. In Settings> *turn OFF* Wi-Fi, Blue-Tooth, Personal Hot Spot

2. In Settings>General>Cellular> *turn OFF* Personal Hot Spot.

3. Reboot Phone *hold on off switch AND home button at same time until phone turns off and apple reappears*

4. The go back into Settings>General>Cellular> *turn ON* Personal Hot Spot. In a few moments the iPhone Wi-Fi should show up in your computer and other devices as available.

4a. It phone doesnt show up; referesh your computeter (not iphone) Wi-Fi search.

...This is a known problem, especially with 4g users on various networks (especially verizon) as the 4g drops out when a phone call is recevied. If a phone call is picked up and lasts more than 90(+/-) seconds the Wi-Fi signal will be dropped. Repeat steps 1 through 4 above.

This might be of interest!

I have a laptop with iTunes installed and which I rarely use, but when opening iTunes on it today, there were a number of purchases which were showing as being 'on the Cloud'. I downloaded them all to the laptop, but then when I opened iTunes on my PC (Windows XP) which is my default backup, my iPhone 4s appeared and it was not connected to my PC by cable nor was it plugged in to recharge.... just sitting on my desk minding it's own business!!

Now when I start iTunes it immedeatly appears.

Therefore suggest that if you have more than one 'Authorised' computer you update the other from Cloud ... look for a cloud emblem in the top right corner of the album's image!

🙂

This thread is starting to veer off into the ditch. The issue is very obviously NOT with our phones, routers, computers, etc. I have 2 3GSs and a brand new iPad, none of which will sync wirelessly. The phones DID at one time, but stopped because of whatever "feature" apple introduced with the update. I made no changes to anything other than to install the updates as they came out, and that alone was enough to break the wireless sync. I'll open a ticket using my support for the new iPad and see what they say...

I suggest calling apple support. You may have a faulty wifi card/antennae.

If the steps didn't work.

- first backup your iphone/ipad to computer or iCloud.

Also try:

- resetting your network under Settings>Reset>

- also try hooking your phone/pad to iTunes and setting up the phone as a new device (without any aftermarket apps or settings to eliminate any interferences). When trying this way do not restore any of your backups to the new device setup until after wifi and hotspot operation is checked. This will tell you if any of your settings are on.

Finally under settings...also make sure iTunes cellular update/backup is turned on. I had this issue at one time.

Hope it helps

I will call as soon as I have a chance. WiFi is working fine from both iPhones and the iPad. Even home sharing works. Watching the event log, I can see the Bonjour service start successfully. As soon as I start iTunes, I get (24) ERROR: handle_resolve_request bad interfaceIndex errors. This error seems to point to bonjour looking to resolve DNS over IPv6 which is strange because I've disabled every trace of v6. I'll post whatever support has to say.
