wifi sync not working after ios6 update

Is anyone else having this problem. I updated to iOS 6 today on my iPhone 4s, everything else is working just fine, but wifi-sync isn't working, my phone doesn't appear in itunes until i plug it into my computer. Anyone have any ideas?

"Sync itunes"?

Why didn't we think of this hundreds of posts ago? LOL

I have no clue what this postmeans in the context of this lengthy thread.

I've never discovered a reliable fix for the original problem. I can periodically restart my Mac or restart one or more of my iOS devices and yes, through this unstructured 'process', I can actually sync all of my iOS devices with iTunes on my Mac.

My conclusion is that WiFi sync is something that currently be relied upon to produce predictable behavior over time. It's buggy. Maybe it will be resolved, maybe the systems involved will ultimately become obsolete and we will just grow out of this problem like a temporary developmental problem like voices changing or body hair changes at puberty.

"Sync itunes", huh? Hmmmm, I'll have to sync that over.

Dear ScaryCat.. I mean SarahCat.. I have 64bit Win 7 and it comes and goes for me as well. I was hoping after this last update it would be rock solid.. but I guess it was not in the pudding. I have talked to a lot of iPhone 5 users over the last few months and none of them use wifi sync. So this may not be a burning issue for Apple. And because the devices have to be wired to do software updates that seems even less reason for anyone else to use this "feature". I think I am more po'd that the mophie battery case I have for the iPhone 5 is not designed for the new iPhone 5 cable.

Wired, but not necessarily to the computer - you just are supposed to have it plugged into a power source for updates, and also can wifi sync that way, too...when it's working that is.

I too have the Mophie case. Love it. When I need to use the iPhone cord I just pull off the bottom of the case off, so not a big deal really. Oh, a must share - I've also discovered a few cords that fit the Mophie case, my husband's work blackberry cords and I recently discovered the car charger that came with a mounting device I just purchased for mounting the iPhone to the windshield from Samsung fits the Mophie case and charges it saving the hassle of pulling the case apart, thus charging the iPhone and the case 🙂 And another car charger that fits the Mophie case is the Jawbone Jambox car charger 🙂

Yes you can use other chargers with the Mophie case. I use the car cig lighter battery charger as well and sometimes I get a warnng message that it is not compatible with the iPhone 5, but if i turn the switch to charge on the Mophie case the message goes away.

If your connected to iTunes via wifi it will not let me upgrade to the latest iOS level unless I am using the new iPhone 5 cable. However I can update over the cell network irregardless of being connected to power.

Ritesh,

Congratulations. Of all the posts so far, yours is the first where the wi-fi sync started working again without having to reboot my computer, restart iTunes, or stop/start any services. This is working for two days straight which on my unit is already unbelievable.

It also addressed the CPU spin on the MobileDevice service but I still have a CPU spin on ATH.EXE. How did you debug the challenge to this level and have you looked at the same thing for ATH.EXE.

For the record, WIndows 8, 64 bit system. Both iPhone 4S and iPad were unable to do wireless sync and both now working over two days with no restarts of iTunes or any services. Could still fail over time but this is great progress to date.

My next step is to put the same firewall rule on my other unit and see if I get the same results.

I disagree. That is not how it is designed. I have spoken to many high level apple techs who said that wifi sync from ios devices will use wake on lan to wake the computer up. I can even tell you that hitting wifi sync in the settings menu on the ios device wakes the hard drive as I can hear it spinning but it does not get to the actual sync. I know that apple is aware of the issue and supposedly working to fix it. They would not say whether its itunes, ios or osx problem.
