iOS 6 - Maps No Sound

My observations so far have been that voice for turn-by-turn so far only works on GSM/CDMA devices, my Wifi only 3rd Gen iPad doesn't seem to offer voice turn by turn - even though I may have a mobile Wifi Hotspot and built in GPS.

My 4S turn-by-turn works fine in San Francisco - well based upon the signal keeps bouncing around due to the buildings - and I get voice feedback for the driving option only.

There also appears to be a map server required but you would get a warning if it couldn't contact the map server.

Even if I change the language Siri uses, the maps voice seems to default to English (Australian) - yet there is no place to alter Siri's voice for Maps.

Investigating further, so far, I find I get sound to work if I chose a destination from Contacts, but if I TYPE in a destination (which Maps accuartely locates with a pin), sound directions do not work.

I don't really know if that's the whole issue...

Hmmm.. I have no problems typing in an address and getting directions. Voice still works.

Mind you with the driving directions you can't seem to fast forward like the walking directions - it won't progress unless you actually head in the direction intructed.

Actually, when I did manage to get audio to work, Siri started talking as soon as I hit "Start." So it's easy to tell when audio will or won't work for any route.

Well yeah, having to hit start is a given isn't it? The process seems to be choose a destination, requrest directions, select route, Show full route, hit start and get directions from Siri.

This may be the answer to the problem (is this a feature?!). From the current Macworld iOS 6 Maps article:

"If you get driving directions from the current location, Maps’s automatic turn-by-turn mode engages: You see the same Overview screen as you do when viewing walking or driving directions that don’t start at your current location, but once you press Start, Maps begins talking you through the directions one at a time."

Does this solve the mystery?

Nope, i've tried some of the solving methods out there. Still no sound at all -_-

The IOS 6 doesn't have YOUTUBE, GOOGLE MAP and VOICE CONTROL ( for iPhone 4, 3GS & 3G )

It's better to keep the IOS 5 which is more excited.

I can't get the voice directions on iOS 6 with my iPhone 3g. I get them on my iPad. Anyone know how to fix this?

4S and above have these features, not the 3G

You can download YouTube and google from the App Store after upgrading to ios6 (for free)

You are correct in saying it is no longer bundled with iOS but the service has not been discontinued.

Bing Maps offers a very good maps service with Bird's Eye, a feature similar to Flyover. It's arguably better than Google Maps.

Nokia Maps is another great service that you can add to your Home Screen via a web shortcut.

There is a GREAT YouTube app in the App Store by Google. Leaps and bounds better than the old one.
