Same here to. I have searched online for hours to see if there was a solution. I had to delete a lot of my son's games, music and pictures. Its not just the app store that crashes, twitter and some other apps too. Very annoying. I have now backed up what ever it is on to the laptop but not sure what to do next. I don't want the IOS 6 on it. Can I restore back to what it was without loosing more stuff?

I diagnosed the "Search" issue as a problem with the number of results, at least on my friend's early model iPod Touch. When he searched for "racing" and got something like 1500 results, it would crash every time. When he searched for the game he wanted by name, "CSR Racing", he got 15 results and could download and install it no problem. I have a feeling the device is trying to render too many of the search results off-screen and runs out of memory.

I too see this and have asked the simple question:

"Why not allow so many unsatisified people to simply revert one IOS version back to 5.1.x?"

It seems like if Apple simply provide the 5.1 download and reset the data for validation even if it were on a case-by-case basis they'd make many people happy!

Apple decides what is best for us. Although we all want 5.1.1 back, they will never roll back.

I work for a software company as both a developer and support engineer.

When a new version of any software comes out it may have an issue or 2 that was missed. I accept this as reality.

But If customers have issues, even if they only perceive there may be an issue, then you must absolutely allow them to go back at least until they are satisified the new version is good.

One part of this may be that most of us have one and only one device. If we were an entarprise (company) updating possibly hundreds of devices the company owned and we had an issue apple would absolutely provide a downgrade path. Imagine a fortune 500 company that provided several thousand iPads to its field people and suddenly they stop working or are sluggish...

If anyone from Apple is reading these forums, please strongly consider allowing users to choose which version of IOS works best for them and allowing it to be installed. Many of us want the best performance based on what we believe is the best.

I think we've been down this path before though...
