My iPhone 5 connects to wifi networks and remembers them, but receives absolutely zero data through the network. LTE and 3G no problem... Off to the repair shop (after 3 hours of ownership...) or any ideas??

Because this is a widespread and well-documented problem, you will almost certainly be able to return your phones if you want to.
Turning off iCloud doesn't do anything for me.

I bought 2 x64 GB iphone5 in Brighton UK . One in Black ( no wifi whatever) one in White ( no problem with wifi ) . Very upset that tomorrow I have to go back to the shop to exchange it !

Just exchanged my 64gb for not picking up wifi signal. Would not even detect any networks in the Apple store. First one they had come back at this store. No problem finding my network how.
I changed my router to AES + TKIP. Can you configure it to use TKIP encryption? Sorry, not familiar with your router.
apparently I'm set on the first, as my config on my iphone, ipad, storm2, playbook, and macbook pro all show as WEP, not WEP2
Im on my third replacement. Still no worky.

Plain white box. But they're brand new, too (for now at least).
