iPhone 5 wifi issues

My iPhone 5 connects to wifi networks and remembers them, but receives absolutely zero data through the network. LTE and 3G no problem... Off to the repair shop (after 3 hours of ownership...) or any ideas??

Just signing in to add my name to the list.

iPhone 5 with iOS 6. Wifi won't connect to some networks, often requires restart to connect to others and routinely drops connections on wifi networks it does manage to connect to. It drops wifi networks in a weird way though, it still appears to operate on the network but cannot pull down data.

Also, not sure if its related but have experienced (in the one week I've had the phone) repeated examples of 3G data connections not working either. Phone just spins and spins until I restart.

Overall, not stoked at all.

Have a similar problem with the iphone 5. Got full strength wifi (full bars) at home until yesterday. My wife's iphone 4 had a strong signal on the same network while I only had 1 bar. Spoke to Apple support who told me to reset network settings. (Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings. Problem solved...for now. I'll be really annoyed if this is a "thing" with the i5.

So I had the same exact wifi issues as everyone else. I pre-ordered and straight from the box it wouldn't connect to my netgear router. I tried all the different "fixes" out there (resetting network connections, loading as a new phone, dns settings, etc) and nothing seemed to work even though my two other ipads and an iphone work and connect perfect.

I ended up making an appointment to the genuis bar and when I talked to the tech, he said that his phone had the same exact problem and just swapped it out. I'm happy to report that after he did that, I'm connected fine and no issues what so ever. I finally have a fully functional iphone now.

I had a 3GS and had no problem with wi fi on my brothers wi fi network or at work or any place else.

Ggot the phone wet and apple gave me a 4 for free as a replacement.

Down loaded new 6.0 and now can not connect to wi fi.

MY brother has 4 GS downloaded the 6.0 and doesn't have any problems with his wi fi.

So why is this just affecting some phones doesn't matter what if its new or old.

Okay, I'm posting my story in a few threads, because I'm not really sure where it belongs. BUT, I want Apple Mods here to count my vote in the group of angry Apple enthusiasts who are upset about the LACK of communication from the company regarding this glaring issue. Just tell us that you are aware of the problem and that you're working on it. That alone will help prevent me from dropping my new iPhone all together and moving over to a Samsung Galaxy S3.

"My wife received her white 64 GB AT&T iPhone 5 from on September 26th (after ordering on the 14th from Apple) and she has had recurring problems with her data connections. Specifically, it will find wifi networks and even connect to them, but then it will spontaneously lose connections and she'll get error messages out of the blue saying that she's not connected to a wifi network. Also, while she often has 4 or 5 bars for her cellular signal, the LTE, 4G, 3G, or Edge indicator is often blank. Sometimes, LTE will light up and she'll be able to download at super-fast speeds, but then other times it's just not available. Also, the wifi indicator will show multiple bars (or waves?), indicating that there's a strong wifi signal, but the internet just won't work over it. This will happen while I'm sitting next to her with my AT&T iPhone 4, just sailing away on the internet with no problems at all.

SO, we took her phone to our local Apple Store in Troy, Michigan for a Genius Bar appointment. The Apple Genius told me that he had the EXACT same problems with his new iPhone, so he exchanged it for another one, and that also had the same problems. He thought there were a few things going on. First, the LTE issue is a local issue for us here in the Detroit area. AT&T just rolled out LTE here 2 weeks ago. So, they are having a number of bugs related to the network being new and possibly a little premature. He thinks the network will be better in the next few months, from what he's heard from AT&T. The wifi issue he believes is a software problem, unique to iOS 6 and its installation on the iPhone 5. Since the LTE thing keeps going on and off, and wifi keeps going on and off, the data connection on the phone is very unreliable at this point, and the phone is using a lot of power to try to maintain that connection, hence the faster battery drainage we're exeperiencing as well.

The bottom line is that there was nothing he could do for me. He wouldn't even let me TRY a phone replacement to see if it would be better. His suggestion was for me to sit tight and wait for Apple software updates and for AT&T to improve their network. However, I am scheduled to have my new BLACK 64 GB AT&T iPhone 5 delivered tomorrow (October 1st). I will restore it from my iPhone 4 backup on my iCloud (like I did with my wife's) and I will se how it goes. If that phone connects and works flawlessly while my wife's phone continues to have problems, then I will return her phone for a new one. On the other hand, if my phone behaves the same way as hers, then I guess I'll follow the Apple Genius' advice."

Any thoughts? Is this an iPhone 5 issue, an iOS 6 issue, an AT&T issue, a lemon of a phone, or a little bit of all of the above?

The sensible thing at this point, given the numerous problems with the new model, is to ask for your money back and wait for Apple to fix it before buying working models.

Let's get it clear, this problem is of Apple's making, nobody else should be expected to carry the can for Apple's decisons and failings.

In fact Apple might get quite a shock and wake up if 5 million users returned their purchases.

Instead of doing what they always do which is just put up with it.

IOS 6 WIFI FIX FOR NOW!!!!!

The only quick fix for now is to reset your Network

Setting/General/Reset/Reset Nettwork Settings

Make sure you copy your password somewhere. I did so on Notes so that i could copy and paste.

This will work for a while but the problem keeps coming back in a day or so but at least its a quick fix.

I have the problem on both my Iphone and Ipad 3 with IOS 6

The only other permanent fix is to go back to IOS 5 which I had back when I tried IOS 6 bata and had the same problem which I thought Applw would have Fixed.

Apple better get there act together or Android is going to Kick there *** SOON!

I cannot believe there are still Apple fanboys on here who are defending this issue and saying it will be resolved with a software update!!

Its laughable.

Can a software update re-solder a connection that was not done properly in a factory in China?

Stop giving people false information.

If your wifi doesn't work then take the unit back and do not leave until they give you a working replacement.

If you know someone with a working unit then use this to show the rep / genuis how your unit is faulty in comparrison. This is the ONLY thing that will fix the issue. Stop wasting your time and money and listening to these people feeding apples lies to you.

I had the exact same issue. I ignored everyone telling me to reset, restore, etc, etc, - got a replacement unit and it now works perfectly.
