iPhone 5 wifi issues

My iPhone 5 connects to wifi networks and remembers them, but receives absolutely zero data through the network. LTE and 3G no problem... Off to the repair shop (after 3 hours of ownership...) or any ideas??

Hey mate,

Are u able to creat a guest network on your router at home ?

If so create a separate guest network for your iPhone 5 and done put a password on this account but make sure u hide the network name (SSID) or people will use ur download usage (if u have any).

This has worked for me, and I'm sure it will for u too.

Here found this post it might help.

All the best buddie, and don't stress apple will resolve this issue..

Cheers

Just want to add:

I have tried these workarounds and they do NOT work with this issue:

General network reset: "Settings," "General," "Reset," "Reset all Network Settings"

Neither does changing your router as suggested here:

Apple products may be unable to connect to 802.11n Wi-Fi networks if WMM (Wireless Multimedia) is disabled.

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3727?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Neither does this fix from Gizmodo:

http://gizmodo.com/5960570/how-to-fix-your-iphone-5s-crappy-wi+fi

Waiting on replacement hardware that has been promised from my network (o2) a week ago but they are saying that they are out of stock in all of the UK still a week later.

Finally - just checked with Google Global Search and this issue has been searched a few thousand times this month in English.

Please, everyone, write about your problems here.

http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Apple wont do anything if people dont apply with bad feedback!!!

I managed to solve my problems which were due to problems with router and adsl modem in bridge mode. New modem new isp and both turned with two NAT services made it work.

Funny is that my friend's iphone 4 managed to connect and work excellent with old settings, but my our all ios devices at home exponentialy stared to have problems with many services, first being my new iphone 5.

Some inherent vulnerability of wifi card in iphone 5 is obvious.

Of course, my friend also had ios5 because he likes to keep his iphones jailb.

Good luck.

I posted in feedback! With a link to this thread in the post.

"Please analyze this.

Up until recently, i had many problems.

Ever since upgrading my home ios devices to ios6 wifi connectivity went to ****.

My imessage, itunes home sharing access (none, partial or messed up) was behaving erraticaly. My FT sometimes worked, sometimes worked in one direction, sometimes semi worked only if 3g and wifi were on, solo wifi didn't.

My apple tv, and friend's iphone 4 on ios5 always worked, along other android devices friends come with.

I pay premium for apple devices for them to work, like they did in ios5 version.i dont expect ****** stone age connectivity issues.

In my family, we have ipad2, getting a new one soon. Iphones 3,3gs,4,4s,and my new 5.

Iphone 5 was the worst. He started behaving first immediately after update to ios6 (this convinced me never to go for new release from you ever again! My friends stayed on ios5 due to maps, twitter working correctly - taking names of webpages as names for tweets, which mine doesnt, and you tube capable of background playing which I dont have anymore - thanx apple).

To repeat - all iphones and ipad after update to ios6 started having issues with wifi connectivity. I couldnt even open some pages here on discussion forums!!

Again - other mobile devices and my laptop, 2 PCs connected wirelessly, many friends visiting....HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH ANYTHING!

My friend's Mac air works too with everything on my wifi network.

Yesterday i went to a new ISP and got a new modem.

This new modem isnt yet in bridge mode, it has a dhcp for one subset, and my main router asus nt66ru has another. I even have both NAT services running.

NO PROBLEM WHATSOEVER!!!

Obviously, some protocol in ios6 didnt manage to get all data through the old config.

PLEASE, FIND OUT WHATS THE PROBLEM AND FIX IT.

I am holding on buying new iMac and MBA for my wife which I love ( both MBA nad my wife, in different order), because I lost faith in your capability and a lot of technical reading i did (old filesystem on mac os when you had zte almost implemented, hardware problems, screen problems etc).

Not to mention having idiotic issues with voice memos that wont copy to iunes and syncing complexity, that i had to use iexplorer to extract because my lectures were recorded there.

Not to mention i cant use synology NAS 412+ to stream to apple tv, because i have to have a itunes pc on to ply from....

I am so angry at that and syncing which is also stone age...

Why cant we simply move voice memos as we see fit? Why not put it into music on iphone if we wish (we have to covert into mo3 first for it to work, crazy!). WHY MAKING SYNCING SO FRICKING COMPLICATED???

Anyway, please help us. Help yourself.

You are loosing your luster, and number of sales wont cover you indefinitely if you loose the love of consumers that you presently have.

Ps i have made many feedback posts, and in those posts i posted many times that in choice of OS on feedback form there is no iOS option. Please, for the love of God, make this simple change on feedback forms. I use ipad for most of web things I do. Thank you."

Now for a Slap to Apple,

As per your brief on the update:

Support Article: http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/

Explain to me how all of a sudden

Netgear Pro Safe WAP WG102

Firmware V5.0.3

Is now working with the LATEST firmware on IOS 6.1.

The UPDATE is MORE than LTE support, seems like more support for WAP Devices somehow ?

Apple should publish EVERYTHING what was changed in this update

After replacing iphone 5 twice in App Store genius bar. Am still surfing the same problem. (wifi issues, if I walk 2 feets away of Router, the Wifi signal showed 2 bars, but no data connection.).

1st pairs of iphone5 purchased in early Dec. wifi on mine is not working yet, but my wife' working good. within 1 week, back to App store, asked for a replacement, which already in ios 6.0.2. it worked fine in 3G celluar or Wifi in 1st 1-2 week. and then wifi no working again!

I have tried all the ways discussed in this thread "https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4322714?start=0&tstart=0". wifi still no working.

lucky to see you fix the issue after upgrading to ios 6.1, so downloading & upgrading to latest ios 6.1. wifi still not working yet...

Am thinking to get back Genius bar ask for another replacement...

Apple, please do not disappointed us again, FIX issues ASAP!!! been loyal customer since iphone 1...

sbailey4: It doesnt matter how you look at it... It still comes down to how IOS 6 drives the hardware to communiate with WAP devices. If firmware needs to be embedded in to IOS updates for these issues to be resolved then so be it. Apple will always continue to hit n miss with their updates. It looks like they still havent captured everyone with WiFi issues as updating to IOS 6.1 then everything magically works like IOS 5 again ?

In addition to your article, further reading advised this issue you've made a mention is "supposed to be resolved" by IOS 6.1

see thread: http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/MAPG-8XENS7

Jan 29, 2013 4:40 PM in response to Shanon.Roberts

Yes Apples support document is where the other fixes were listed that were not on the pretty release notes. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5642

That is what I was referring to about other fixes that were done but not posted in the pretty release notes telling users how great Apple is by adding LTE and WOW you can now purchase movie tickets via SIRI. All that really cool stuff than makes you want to RUN not walk and get the update!

I mean what end user really cares about security updates right? And the technical blab.

I've been posting on a similar thread here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4325654?answerId=21223033022#21223033022

I'm quite convinced that my problems are related to the interaction between a 1st Generation Airport Express and an iPhone 5 running 6.0.2 or 6.1 as the problems arose only after switching to those. My other iOS devices are fine. I was hoping that the most recent updates to the Airport firmware would have fixed it, but no such luck.

Feb 15, 2013 10:16 PM in response to Mr. Squires

At the suggestion of others on a related thread, I have found that switching to wireless N - 5.0 GHz mode gets my iPhone working again. Signal strength goes back to "Excellent". No distance problems, etc. All other modes still create the problem. The MAC address filtering and choice of password security do not impact at all. Of course, I can't stay in that mode because then other devices I have do not work.

APPLE - PLEASE TAKE NOTICE AND GIVE SOME ACKNOWLEDGEMENT!

Hi All,

I've started a new discussion for those who specifically have the issue of slow downloads of large files/podcasts/etc over WIFI networks. Just wanted to focus on this specific topic, rather than general WIFI issues that many people are seeing (ps if you are having issues connecting to WIFI networks, take your phone back as soon as you have confirmed this issue on a few different WIFI networks, don't put up with it!).

Good luck everyone who is having issues!
