iTunes player skips songs with iOS6 update

I updated my iPhone4 with the new iOS6. Now my iTunes player arbitrarily skips songs as if they are not there. But when I sync, it shows the space being used by MUSIC. I tried removing all the music and NOT syncing music. And then syncing the music back again. That didn't work. I tried rebooting the phone.

Do I have to do a full restore (go back to factory settings and then restore from my backup) to get this working again or is it an iOS6 glitch? Thanks.

Thanks, Chefjefe. This worked for me as well. But I also had to turn off itunes match on itunes and the iphone. Thus reverting back to the old way of having the music hard sync between the comuter and the phone. this leads me to beleive that the problem is indeed itunes match and streaming from the cloud. Hope they fix this, I have a lot of music that would be nice to access from my phone, but cannot store my entire library due to limited space on the phone.

I am guessing the "Free Song" 'on the week is going to get a lot of downloads so folks can accept the new terms and conditions. I am so irritated! I called Apple this morning about this and they wanted me to reset my iphone... like COMPLETELY. I told them it was happening on my iPad and Iphone so it could not be a device-specific problem, and they didn't seem to care. I would not agree to do it because I thought it was a stupid idea. Boy, I am glad I didn't. The problen was theirs (which they never admit) and it was an easy fix. I was going to call them back with my case number to tell them how to fix it, but they made me too angry today. I hope they burn up a lot of hours working it out.

And... they told me that because I have more than 25000 titles in the library on my computer (obviously not all matched), that I needed to DELETE some to get under the limit. Pleae shoot me...

chefjefe's suggestion worked for me, in terms of putting my actual music files back on my iPhone. However, the sync did NOT removed the phantom files first, so now I have "doubles" of each song. It looks like I'll need to go in and delete -- one by one -- the files with missing music. Regardless, it looks like I'm back in business and even if it hits that blank file, it just skips over it until it hits one that's actually there. Thanks to all of you for your persistence!

My problem now is that when I'm doing my hardwire sync ... it gets stuck on "Step 5 of 5" (Waiting for items to copy). Both iTunes and my iPhone just sit there with the sync icon spinning and spinning and spinning and spinning. I eventually just have to stop the sync on my iTunes, eject the iPhone, then restart my iPhone to stop it. So if anyone is experiencing THAT and has a solution, let me know! Thanks!

Now as I start trying to delete phantom files, I'm finding that sometimes BOTH files won't play. But if I guess right and delete the ORIGINAL phantom file, then the actual music track will be playable. About the only way I can tell the difference is the actual music file now come under the album artwork, whereas the phantom file is marked by the "music note" icon.

Way to go, Apple. I'm sure to have a lot of fun manually sorting through my 1,500 or so songs to get things in order. And I'd bet that number pales in comparison to others in the same predicament. Geez ...

THANK YOU! I was having the same probelm with my iPhone 5 on iOS6 when using iTunes match. Anything on itunes match would just continuously skip and not play (all my songs). Turning off my iTunes match on my computer and iPhone and then turning them back on did not fix the problem, nor did rebooting both devices. I had to purchase the free song of the day on iTunes and agree to the new terms of service. Now iTunes match is back to working perfectly.

Well, I guess I've been hoodwinked. Not all of the music works. I downloaded a song from iTunes on my computer, but never got a terms and conditions request (may have done that before, but I don't recall). I did same on my iPhone, and it came up, and of course I accepted. I tried to go back to "Sync Over Wi-Fi," but now I see that it's stuck on Step 5 of 5 again, and it says it's "Copying Anti-phishing database." But it just hangs up right there and goes no further.

To say I'm furious over this is an understatement. Some of the suggestions seemed to work, but not fully. And now the daggone thing is a train wreck. Just about had enough. ***** that I have all those songs on here, but when I want to listen to my playlist for running, or another one, I can't and have to opt for Pandora to supply the music. Apple has really screwed this up. Badly. And all I can read here and elsewhere is they really don't give much of a crap, nor are they willing to acknowledge holes in this release.

My contract is just about up. I really don't want to switch because, fundamentally, iPhones are far better than Androids, IMO. But if this is what the post-Jobs Apple is going to be, I don't think I want to go along for the ride.
