iPhone 5 wifi woes

Got my white 32Gb iPhone today, but am having severe problems with WiFi. I have an airport extreme, and the iPhone detects both bands, and after a few attempts accepts the password required to connect. However, I get no internet connection, and the iPhone continuously drops back to indicating "3G" before it'll fetch any data. I have reset network settings, and now done a restore- neither make any difference.

Hugely disappointed, seems like I have a faulty phone- or is anyone else having the same problem?

I experience exactly the same issues as all of you.

Can connect to a wifi with my iP5, but has absolutely no data download.

Drop out's and if I get some data, I feel like being back on my old 56k.

I actually believe that I solved my problem, by changing my Security options from wpa2-psk [aes]

to wpa-psk [Tkip] ( seen in this thread someware )

Try it out if you have the similar error on your new iP5

This is a hardware issue. I have a 32 gb black iPhone 5 and the wife has white iPhone 5. My iPhone is useless on my home Airport network. It locks up especially if need to open the settings.app. Also, apps will lock up and not respond. This my second iPhone 5. Genius replaced the original one. My wife's is not having this issue. I have restored it as new and it worked for for a while now it is back to the issue. It does not matter what wifi network it tries to connect to, it still has the same issue.

I have all six of the iPhones and this is the worst one I have ever owned. It is very frustrating to use at home. On LTE it works well.

On wake the iPhone will not connect to wifi and then it locks up. I am going to wait for a while to exchange iPhone 5 just in case they are fixing the hardware. BTW my iPad 3 on iOS 6 works great on my network with LTE on.

I don't have a computer yet! To transfer all my iTunes to my iPhone 5 *****. When I turn on Wi-Fi Internet after a few seconds then Internet freezes up or it tells me Safari could not open page server failed turn wi-fi back off. Internet super fast. I already took to Verizon store they reset phone wiped everything back to when they first activated it. Few days later started up again with wi fi issues I called apple she said maybe after hooking it up to iTunes it would work. So what do I do?!

I just downloaded the first update to ios6 tonight and so far, I've got wifi with no disconnect issues, and the performance is great. I've had continuous wifi service (on wpa2) for the last 2 hours, and that NEVER happened before this update. Would always spin out before 30 minutes was up.

And in the notes for this upgrade, Apple said they specifically addressed this issue. We might be good to go on this, folks.

I first got the iPhone 5 about a week after release. For the first week my wifi would go out every time the phone went in to lock mode. I tried the "set up network as other" method and it worked perfectly fine. Then, yesterday morning I noticed my wifi was not connected once again. Now I'm having the problem that if I'm within 2 feet of the router, I have a full signal, but once I leave the room it drops completely.

Very odd for the issue to have appeared resolved for nearly a month, and now a new, different problem seems to have arised. I updated to 6.0.1 the day after it was released, so my wifi had been working fine for a couple of weeks. Very frustrating, as I really have no idea if this is a software or hardware issue with how it's been working

I think there are a multitude of issues that are causing confusion. To help anyone else my symptoms were:

iPhone 5 (6.0.1) would not discover any wifi networks unless the phone was within ~6ft radius of the access point.

Phone would connect to access point if I stayed within 6ft and manually entered SSID, password, and encryption.

Went to Apple store, they confirmed hardware flaw within 10 minutes and swapped for a new phone.

New phone works perfectly w/ wifi like my other iPhones and iPads.

STJarrett1

Try this, worked for me with WPA2.

make sure you click 'forget' the network that you are trying to connect to before trying this.

-WiFi off

-WiFi on

-click 'Other' network.

-type in the name of your network

-type in the security code

-done.

It worked for me after my iphone 5 kept disconnecting everytime it went on standby and having to re-connect every time i turned the phone back on.

My iphone 5 didnt work either. But today I got it working. Just want to share it with everyone who still has this problem. Not sure if it's applicable to all of iphones 5.

So I updated iOS through iTunes from 6.0.1 to 6.0.2. Let iTunes do the whole thing.

Then I turned off my modem + router, waited 5 seconds, then turned them on. [ I didnt change WPA2 to WEP, I left it as WPA2-PSK]

After that, on my iPhone 5, i went to Settings - Wifi - I turned it off. Then turnied it on again.

Waited for a few minutes. Then I surfed the web using Safari... and it worked perfectly.

Hope this will work for you guys. 🙂
