iOS 6 battery life terrible

iPad 3 updated to iOS 6 and as usual it was 100% charged when I went to bed. Woke up and battery totally drained. I'm guessing iOS 6.1 is needed ASAP?

3 days ago I updated my iPad 2 to iOS 6. Suddenly my battery that typically lasted 2 days wasn't making it through 1 day. I'm not a heavy user, nor did I change how I use the iPad. Today I had to plug it in at 3pm (15%) after starting the day at 100%. I waited to upgrade to iOS 6 thinking the bugs would have been worked out, now it seems that I should have searched this community for issues before upgrading. ****.

Backup to the cloud and restore as new. This is what worked for me also. Only don't restore from backup, otherwise you will be bringing back the same problems. Start from factory new!

Apple should spend some of their 100 billion in reserves to stableize their own stock. Wall street is in a feeding frenzy with profit taking, for those big year end bonus's. That activity is destroying the little guys equity.

Look, this is not a normal situation. What solved my similar problem was a trip to the Apple Store. The tech put my item on a hook up that analysed the problem. He then fixed the problem and assured me that my battery was fine. They have some sort of an analysis app. I do not have that battery drain any more. Apple will have these problems solved with time so they won't show up in the first place.

Unlike you not everyone can take a trip to their local Apple Store and get a tech to repair their iPad after they downloaded an update because they don't live anywhere near an Apple Store! Perhaps if Apple's updates were fit for purpose in the first instance Apple's reputation may not be taking a battering!

Apple shouldn't have to eventually sort these problems out, they shouldn't have happened in the first place!

Same problem here...

My iPad 1st gen running iOS5.1.1 lasts for weeks under the same activity as my iPad 3rd gen running iOS 6, the latter which is now even losing noticeable capacity whilst in sleep mode. Very sad. Same problem's also happening with my iPhone 5 w/iOS6 compared to my 2yr old iPhone 4 w/5.1.1; the latter's battery life is almost double that of the iP5.

iOS6 is shockingly inefficient. Tell 'em at apple.com/feedback.

Hi Guys,

I did the following steps and now my battery life is better than before.

Used iTunes to update my iPad to the latest iOS 6.0.1

Set up the iPad as a new device.

Synced all my photos , videos etc… through iTunes.

Let my iPad idle till the battery drained out completely and it shut down itself. I had to play around a bit to make this happen fast. But when you have 10% left, leave the iPad on and let the battery get drained.

Once it has shut down completely, charge it back to 100% and keep it plugged in for a while.

You will see a considerable improvement in your battery life.

I did the same with my 4S and it works great now.

I've posted here several times regarding this issue. I restored the system as new and it mostly resolved the problem. Is it as good as with iOS 5.xx? No, I don't think it is. But it's a lot better than before restoration.

I also tried restoring from the backup and this did not work. If you do this, be sure to back up all of your data and copy your photos onto your computer in case you want/need them. If you don't properly back up, you will lose that information.

The restore process was pretty painless. I shouldn't have had to do this and I did have to update all of the settings and such, but again it mostly resolved the battery life issue.

You should be able to call Apple and have them walk you through the backup process if there are concerns prior to doing a full restoration as new.

Is anyone listening? Really need a new IOS upgrade and fast. I have the same problem with my iPad 2. IOS 5 was almost perfect. After the upgrade or rather downgrade to IOS 6 my battery's life down to 8 hours even after disabling push notifications and reducing my brightness to 20%

Hope apple sorts this super fast!

With ios 5 on the ipad 3 I could go a week between charges. Ios 6 is a different story however and not worth the upgrade. My wifi connectivity is a lot worse and quite frankly the update is not worth the new facebook functionality and Siri integration I could live without. I love the way apple apps are not backwards compatible with previous ios versions. One is forced to download the latest ios if you want the current updates. If your iPhone or ipad is too old to support that, than too bad you need a new iPhone or ipad. Boo apple. Fix this battery issue please.
