iOS 6 battery life terrible

iPad 3 updated to iOS 6 and as usual it was 100% charged when I went to bed. Woke up and battery totally drained. I'm guessing iOS 6.1 is needed ASAP?

I had the same problem. I went to the Apple Store, talked to a genius, and was told to restore my iPod to its original condition, not from backup. The problem is that you have apps running in the background. After the reset my battery life was back to normal. Because I have a 32GB iPod it did take awhile to get everything reinstalled. The genius has a way to specifically determine whether your battery is normal and whether you really do have apps running in the background that is causing the battery drain. I had sveral games that kept draining my battery. Now all is good.

Yes, same for me: approx. 10-15% battery drainage over the course of an hour on my iPad 3! Thoroughly disspapointed with the upgrade. I recently had an unrelated iTunes/iPad 3 issue (audio on a downloaded TV show wasn't working), and Apple has since fixed, sending me numerous helpful emails in follow up, to confirm all is well, that I'm pleased, etc. Now, Apple, please give this battery life issue the same attention and care!

WHat not many people know is that you can fix this problem by turning off background apps if possible, and to calibrate the battery. It works on almost all devices. To do so, goto whatever settings you have, and place on full brightness, change settings so it will never sleep, and wait until battery drains out all the way. Then you should fully charge your device. It worked on this computer when it could use all battery in 30 mins. I did the calibration and now it works for 4 hours straight on full brightness and high quality games. Calibrations test devices until their battery is FULLY drained and uses it all. when this happens, the battery life expands.

Also, if you are gonna have a long day and you cant charge your phone and you want it to last as long as it can, charge it until the battery is full. Then leave it charging until it is time to go. Sometimes, the battery will last a little longer because it does what I call overgharging. My friend left his phone charge for 5 days straight and it lasted for 5 months. He did not use it much during that period.

Hope this is good advice 😀

Here's what Apple and we forget. None of these issues existed until all of us upgraded to the latest OS. We shouldn't be turning features off that were working just fine the day before.

There's clearly something wrong and Apple simply is accepting a percentage of collateral damage - it's business.

There's an abundance of tips and tricks that work for some and fail for others. I eventually found one that worked for me but not for many others.

My biggest fear is whether or not Apple is losing its way and forgetting what got them here. The alternatives are painful but if they choose to be just like others, they too will fall back to their past and follow IBM and Microsoft. IBM however, reinvented itself just like Apple; so, do they want to be the first to repeat themselves and not learn from the past, hope not.

They, we, lost a great leader a year ago, it will never be the same, it will be different but doesn't mean it reverts back to the past. So, lets hope they actually pay attention to us and the world, remember their roots and most of all, all of us, their loyal customers.

"Condemn?" No. "Disappointed?" As I say, yes, "thoroughly." Not the same. That said, I've tried all the "fixes," scoured forums and boards to learn more and understand the issues, and even went so far as to suggest Apply apply similar customer service to this growing issue. Now, I'll try the suggestion above by Gichi (thanks again). Am being patient and careful, but eager to get this problem solved.

The latest update did nothing for my battery life. So unbelievably frustrating. Can't imagine how some went through Sandy without power with an iPhone 4/s iOS 6 knowing that they'd have to carefully watch the battery and find a place to recharge frequently.

I've been a loyal Apple customer for many years, but I don't subscribe to the idea that I should disable all the great features of this phone just to try to approach the battery life I had prior to the update. This definitely has me questioning my future purchases.

Look, this is not a normal situation. What solved my similar problem was a trip to the Apple Store. The tech put my item on a hook up that analysed the problem. He then fixed the problem and assured me that my battery was fine. They have some sort of an analysis app. I do not have that battery drain any more. Apple will have these problems solved with time so they won't show up in the first place.

Presently there are so many companies out there that are threatened by Apples success. The entire industry is trying to pull a Microsoft on them. Just look at what the financial community, WallStreet, is doing to their stock at present. Good thing Apples got plenty of cash to survive this effort to derail them.

Tim Cook will straighten this mess out with time. I started with OS 9.22. If you want to talk about problems, I'm your man. From what I've heard, low level employess are being paid big money to thwart progress. This is all about destruction of an icon similar to how GM and Ford destroyed rail transportation in this country. There's a major effort going on here. Apple plays fair and that's the problem.
