iOS 6 battery life terrible

iPad 3 updated to iOS 6 and as usual it was 100% charged when I went to bed. Woke up and battery totally drained. I'm guessing iOS 6.1 is needed ASAP?

I upgraded my ipad 2 and one of my iphone 4 to iOS6, while another iphone 4 and iPad 1 remain using iOS5.1.1

The different i see in battery life is huge.

  • iPad 1 (iOS5.1.1) = fully charged battery normal daily usage (WiFi web browsing, manual download email and read iBook), battery last about 1 day with remain of 60% battery at the end of the day.
  • iPad 2 (iOS6.0)= fully charged battery normal daily usage (WiFi web browsing, manual download email and read iBook), battery last about 1 day with remain of 25% battery at the end of the day.
  • iPhone 4 (iOS5.1.1) = fully charged battery normal daily usage (multiple phone GSM call, 3G web browsing, manual download email, whatsapp messaging, iMessage and some facebook), battery last about 16 hours with remain of 10% battery at the end of the day.
  • iPhone 4 (iOS6.0) = fully charged battery normal daily usage (multiple phone GSM call, 3G web browsing, manual download email, whatsapp messaging, iMessage and some facebook), battery last about 10 hours with battery fully drain out by then. As a result i need to bring iPhone charger with me most of the time.

People at Apply may need to look into this battery issue ASAP and come out with a solution in the next iOS release.

Best regards,

Have you tried closing all the apps you aren't using lately? You can do this by double clicking the home button until you see all the apps at the bottom of your screen. Then, tap and hold one of the apps until you see a minus sign. then, tap the minus sign and that will close the app. it wont delete tho. Then close all the rest of them you're not currently using. It really helped my battery life when i did this because all of them were opened and sucking juice. Also, the notifications that you see when you swipe down from the top of the screen really ***** juice if you've got all your apps constantly notifying you. You can fix this by going to settings, then notifications, then under the notification center, tap an app, it takes you to next page, then turn it off at the top. then go back to notifications and do the same thing to the rest of the apps you dont care to be notified. i have my setting to no banners or alerts to many apps because i find it annoying if its anything other than mail, etc. Hope this helps! Good luck!!

Hi JustTryItandSee,

Thank you for your advise on closing the apps, I did that most of the time and it doesn't make much different and I did reset the devide twice. first was right after upgrading to iOS6 and second time was when i notice the map apps screw-up.

Regards to the notification i did try to keep it to the minimum, i don't use weather and stocks. All i use it was for iMessage, email, whatsapp and some other chat notification.

I think i'm going to disable all the features available in iOS6 and just keep it to just making & receive calls and texting. But come to think of it, what's the point of all these to have all these features where i can't use it unless i'm willing to sacrify the stand-by time of my phone?!?!?

before i upgrade to iOS6.0, i was using iOS5.1.1, with everything running and still the battery manage to last until the end of the day. Now after i upgrade to iOS6.0, it is not improving my experience and I have to sacrify most of the features to save up the battery stand-by time!

By the way, thanks for your advise and I hope next release of iOS version will rectify this battery issue.

Why on earth should I disable all of the apps to use the frickin phone? I have used Apple products for 25+years and never had this kind of sh*t before. Upodate the OS so the phone will not work unless you upgrade to the new model? No thanks - if that is the new corporate philosophy at apple I will switch phones and just stay with Mabbooks & pros for my computers. Until they adopt this planned obsolescence with the computers. Then we who have supported Apple all of these years are really screwed.

They already did it.

Yesterday Apple just spat in faces of all iPad3 owners by disabling this product at the middle of a year cycle.

Yesterday morning iPad3 was the best iPad ever, today it just gone. Like it never existed before.

Meet the "New" New iPad, with simple name "iPad retina display", after just 7 month from presentation of The Best iPad Ever - "The New iPad".

I think that too big profits turned their mind and company just kidding with us. They think that Apple can make any frustrating decisions and their customers gratefully accept it.

No way!

I have an iPad2 a 4s and my wife has a 4. Updated to iOS and my iPad crashed. I had several apps stuck in a perpetual update mode and they would neve r update and I couldn't use them. I finally just wiped my ipad and restored from a backup. My 4s is horrible now. Battery dies fast, and I cant't play my music without it freezing up between tracks for a LONG time. Maps is just embarrassing now! Was going to get the 5 since my wife is due for an upgrade! Now I might not. Getting fed up with Apples's complete apathy on this issue! As more competitors like Samsung appear with better products , software and leadership, customers will leave Apple. Remember Apple before the iPod, iPhone, etc??? Macintosh was getting killed by pc's. it can happen again Apple!!! WAKE UP!
