I was just having this issue and 'updaitng' genius didn't work. What I did was:

  1. Turn off iTunes Match.
  2. Turn off Genius.
  3. Turn on Genius.
  4. Turn on iTunes Match.

When I turned on Genius, it actually had a new user agreement that I had to agree to. Don't know what I had to disable it and enable it to see that new user agreement....

Hey everyone,

I appreciate iTunes and Match like most people, but I'm frustrated with this pesky "4002". Like many others here I too tried the turn off/on Match AND Genius, and the 4002 still appeared, seemingly at random. I'm running the most updated of everything (OS-X 10.8.3, iTunes 11.0.4 and whatever they call the latest v of Match).

I think whom ever touched on router speeds may have been closer to the truth then Apple may want to admit.

Recently, due to a known Safari page load bug (partially loads a page, blue load progress bar hangs, and page load ENTIRELY fails), I tried a fix for THAT bug, which is involved but easy to do. (More on this this at the end of this post).

Once I inacted this Safari fix, suddenly the 4002 shows up - A LOT. So, Apple engineers, here's a clue: look at the relationship betwen network hardware MTU speeds, and the correlation to the frequency of the 4002 error with iTunes/store/match. I'll betcha a new MacPro there's a relationship there!

Now, the Safari load bug fix:

Under Sys Prefs > Network > Hardware tab > MTU: change congufure Automatically to MANUALLY, then adjust the speed from whatever you have to "1280".

Doing so MAY solve your Safari browswer load/hang issues — but, a side-effect may indeed be the cause of the "4002 iTunes Store" error.

I've noticed an absolute coorelation between my setting the MTU to 1280 and suddenly I'm getting 4002s.

I'll reset the MTU to something higher, and see if the 4002s goes-away, or even becomes less frequent.

Lastly, does anyone using "Match" experience any such error on their iPhone? I have NOT had such errors on my iPhone, just the MacPro.

This past weekend, I completely deleted and restored my iTunes library, verified all files weren't corrupted, re-did the Genius and iTunes Match parts, and the 4002/4001 error persists. I've tried calling Apple and, in my 90 minutes of trying, got nowhere. In this final go-round, I've got > 8 hours into this project (trying to fix a product that "just works"), and I'm throwing in the towel.

I've re-evaluated my listening activities, and have just subscribed to Pandora One for a year to discover new music, and will purchase tracks from either Amazon or the iTunes store (whichever has the better deal) for my long-term music enjoyment. I wish iTunes Music Match and the concomitant iCloud service would have worked better for me, but the time and aggravation I've experienced trying to get this service to work are deal breakers for me.

I ran iTunes Match updates under the previous version of iTunes with little to no problems. The new version of iTunes either takes forever, constantly restarts, or gives me an error message. If your speeds haven't changed then I say it's a buggy version of iTunes, which considering the problems with the iPhone 5 and the iTunes Match service on iOS 6, it's extremely possible.

Have you tried rebooting your router? I wonder if that could help. I still get error 4002, but everything seems to be working fine with my system. Maybe it's like a 'process timed out' code for iTunes and it just tries again later? Honestly, I can't figure out what it's referring to, but since everything seems to be working correctly I'm not all that concerned. :)

This did not work for me... It's working fine on my mac mini, but on my macbook pro its totally useless. Besides itunes match not syncing properly, the cloud icon doesn't even show up and I can't access any of my matched "in the cloud" music on this computer.

Seemed to start happening when I upgraded to 10.8.2 on the macbook pro.

Huge pain. As this is my main computer that I do most of my music stuff on so it can't upload my new tunes...
