iPhone 4s, iOS 6 keep asking me for my Apple ID password

Hi,

I have updated my iPhone to iOS 6. The problem it keeps asking for my apple id password. I can either click cancel or fill the password, it works just fine but will pop up again. First I tought it was related to one specific app (LINE by NAVER) but not always. I have tried google for answer but had no luck. Any idea? I deleted the LINE app, and reinstalled. I even restored the phone but nothing helped.

I have been getting the pop up asking for my Apple ID password too, usually when using Apple's Music App to listen to podcasts. My password has always been a mix of numbers, upper and lower case letters.

I've tried signing out of iCloud, back in and it still does it, even if I enter the password in the box.

It's clearly a bug in iOS 6 working with iCloud being so integrated.

I had the same problem, and was able to pin-point one of my app called "LINE" by Naver was causing this issue. So for those of you who have this same issue and also have LINE, here is the solution from LINE support, which resolved my issue.

[1] Please update your LINE app from here:

https://itunes.apple.com/en/app/line/id443904275?mt=8

(If you have already got the most recent version please follow the steps below.)

[2] Please try the following steps:

1) Tap your iPhone [Settings]

2) Tap [Store] (On iOS6 this will be shown as [ iTunes Store/App Store]

3) Tap the box that starts with [Apple ID: ] at the bottom

4) Tap [Sign Out]

5) Start up LINE without signing in again and tap [More] on LINE’s main menu.

6) Tap [Settings] > [Stickers] > Purchase History]

7) Tap [Restore Sticker Purchases]

6) When required, enter your Apple ID and password at the pop-up window and tap [OK]

** Don't worry about lossing stickers that you purchased, I completed above process and all the purcahsed stickers are still there **

I fixed my iPhone by going to Settings, scrolled to iTunes & App Stores, tapped on my Apple ID at the top, then signed out. Once I signed in again, the problem vanished.

I had only been getting the constant "sign in" request when playing podcasts in the Music App, and I think the music App had been trying to talk to my iTunes account in the iCloud (iTunes Match disabled) to sync my progress in a podcast.

I have tried the suggestions on this post AND IT DOES NOT WORK! I had a specific app that crashed during Install, and after that it has been popping up all over the place. It pops up with in that app, during text edits, and any other application that I have at this point. Nothing happens when I cancel out. It's just really annoying that it happens.

I have logged out and log back in. I have changed my security settings in iCloud. I have changed my password. Nothing has worked for me and this is almost a dealbreaker with the iPhone. I contacted the iTunes store to report this problem. They pawn me off on technical support which is complete ********. In my opinion this is the Apple stores problem, because I was doing a paid upgrade to a specific application. The fact that they pawned me off on support is ridiculous. What they should've done is credited my account, told me to delete the application and then had me repurchase it. I suspect that is what would make this problem go away. I'm not going to sit with tech-support for two hours while they try to figure out the problem.

After more than a month since the problem began, I've just noticed today that my problem has been solved. I have updated to iOS 6.0.1 first, I checked by launced LINE app, the problem persisted. I updated LINE yesterday to the newest version, launced, the problem persisted. I was devastated that my problem has been ignored.

However, today, after using my phone for a few hours, I've noticed that the phone stopped asking for my Apple ID password. Weird. I checked by closing LINE app and relaunching it 3 times. No more asking for password!!! Hope everyone who was facing the same problem as mine has resolved the problem too.

I have downloaded the 6.0.1 update and unfortunately it seems that none of the issues I have been having with IOS6 have been resolved. The following are the issues I have been experiencing:

  • When I try to update my email or do anything in my settings, it asks for my Apple ID Password, when I put it in correctly, it just keeps popping up over and over until I hit cancel.
  • I cannot connect to new wifi networks, it says that the password is incorrect. However, the same PW works with my mac.
  • I cannot backup my iphone on icloud. I can only sync certain things like songs through directly connecting with my mac. I am set up on itunes though to backup only thru wifi.
  • My ical will not sync with from iphone to mac (this one probably annoys me the most!) regardless of whether I try to sync wifi or direct connection.
  • My battery life SUUUUUCKS! Maybe there isn’t a way to improve this issue, but I am often around a power source so if this was my only issue I would be able to live with it.

Strangely here is a list of the features I still have access to:

  • I still get email on my phone, although at the bottom it says that the last time it was updated was 21 Sep 2012 (probably the day I downloaded IOS6).
  • I can still update my apps.
  • My wifi still works at home but I think that may be because I already had that PW stored before the IOS6 update.

I don’t know what to do about this. I was certain this would be resolved with the first update so I waited patiently for it to come out. Bad Apple! You did very bad! Any advice would be great, ESPECIALLY for the calendar syncing situation.

Hi Danny

I cannot believe all these people have the same problem and Apple haven't come up with an answer except look at the on line Apple forums where someone will be able to help who's not from apple and when we see a resolution and we at Apple will let everyone know that someone somewhere has been able to rectify an Issue that we at Apple couldn't

Roughly at the same time I changed my username and passwords in my accounts thinking this may have had something to do with it but obviously not. It's IOS6 as I can login into everything with the new username and password BUT I get prompted to sign in with my old Apple Id and password - which when I try that also it will not accept my old UserID and password

I have contacted apple technicial support about this issue. The representative told me, that it has been a recent update to Apple Security for all apple products, to ask for the password for your Apple ID when you are purchasing or downloading an app, regardless if you already signed in through the settings tab for the itune and app store. Therefore, this is a new part of apple security and nothing can be done about it, until Apple changes it's security measures.

Have you tried checking to see if your old Apple ID is being used in any applications? Perphaps if you sign out of everything and log back in with your new Apple ID, you will no longer have that problem. If the problem persists, I suggest contacting apple technicial support like I did. I believe all iphones have technicial support and the support is usually courtous and tries to address the problem. The Apple technical support should know more about their products than we do and should fix the problem.

I've been having the same problem today! And I'm really worried.

This has only started happening today whenver I open the app "Whale Trail". Earlier, I had purchased (using real money) something from the app for the game, and ever since then, whenever I opened the app it asks for my apple id password. If I click cancel it works just fine, but it asked me that every time, so I just ended up putting in my password. It stopped asking for my password after that, but then a while later once I opened up the game again, it asked for my password again!

So in total I've put in my password 3 times. I'm worried that it's charging money into my account whenever I do that! However, I checked my account, and it doesn't say that it's charged (It usually says how much money is charged right after I use the card). So for now, the amount charged on my account is still the same as earlier, so it looks as if no money has been charged, but I'm still worried! On the game, it didn't add anymore points to the points I have (which means that I didn't buy the points) and on my account it doesn't say that any extra money is charged. So hopefully, it didn't accidentally charge my accoutn 3 more times! Especially since it didn't even give me the extra points for the game! So it would be charging my account for nothing.

Anyways, I ended up taking off all billing info on my account (other than my address and stuff), so it won't be able to charge it to my account or my card.

It only happens with this one game, and it only happened after I purchased the extra points, do you think it's charging my account several times for the points? Because if it is I'm not even getting the extra points! So I don't think it is, and it doesn't say anything on my billing statement online either. I'm just worried.

And like many users above, if I click the cancel button on the request the app works fine.
