Battery life on iPhone 5

The battery life on my iPhone 5 barely last 5 hours in fact I'm losing about a percent a minute. My iPhone 4 which I had from the very beginning of the release of the iPhone 4 With the original battery last much longer then my new iPhone 5 does. This is very disappointing! I hope that this is a software issue and that it can be fixed with a very soon to come software update.

The biggest issue here is that when apple uses new chips (I.e. Better Networking Chip, Improved PM Chip & 30nm instead of 45nm CPU/GPU) and reduces the size of components (in this case, dock connector & SIM Card), they opt for a thinner & lighter phone rather than using that spare space for a desperately needed battery improvement!

I'm sorry but saying the iPhone 5 battery is an improvement is misleading since all that's happened is that a more efficient Networking chip has been added. If they had gone with a 8.5 - 9mm design, then a bigger could have been added and therefore show off the bennifits if 30nm chips.

In short, a bigger battery could have offered 12 hrs video playback which would translate to true all day usage (except gaming of course). Fingers crossed that apple takes note that bigger batteries are just as useful as more efficient chips.

So I asked for a refund because they said they know about the battery problem and it's normal.

I found out that buying it on contract does not allow me to refund the phone and they said don't buy the new phones when they come out because they fix it later.

I think it was good advice Apple wants to push out a product and not think about quality until after because it doesn't matter at this point most people will want to be the first to get one even if it's a mistake.

Well when I make a mistake I do not make it again. But that's just me.

It's clear to me they set us up, if you purchased a phone on contract you could not return it and if you got an unlocked phone you could not get it repaired or replaced at the apple store.

1 BTC (Bitcoin) says they will start selling unlocked phones in the stores once they fix the phones. I wonder how they got all of the media in their pockets to remain silent on the battery issue? Did they ensure that the media got the good phones? Well whatever they did it worked out well because the media is silent even after the manager at the apple store said everyone has the same problem and there is no announcement online anywhere confirming his statement.

What bugs me about that is I would not be in the apple store if the issue was acknowledged officially, so I feel I got the brush off by the Apple store manager.

Finally I would like to know can anyone play music 40 hours? I can barely do 8 hours before I need a charge and according to the Apple store employees that's for now until a software update.

I just returned my two I phone 5'S . We have been struggling for three days with the battery issue. We have watched tons of forums and discussion.

We have spent hours in the apple store changing settings and running diagnostics. We have restored the phone twice and brought back no apps just contact calendar and email. Still no change in battery life. It goes runs dosn about 1% every 2 minutes. It is sooooo not worth my time. I am back to my 4S. We are soo sad that some folks have no battery issues? The apple tech guy at genius bar state " There is nothing wrong with your battery " . Humm then why after 2 hours does my phone battery say 1% and then turn off. RETURN YOUR IPHONE 5 UNTIL THEY FIX THIS ?? GOOD LUCK ALL...

I'm on my second iPhone 5 on AT&T in Minneapolis.

Done all trouble shooting. Turn off LTE, restored as new, did a few better drains and recharges, limit notifications and blah blah blah. Nothing is working. I'm getting about half the battery as my iPhone 4. I checked it. I'm getting about 4 1/2 hrs on a full charge. I think/hope this will be resolved in iOS 6.01.

Quick update.

I got second phone over the weekend and been watching battery closely. Did full 0% to 100% battery cycle today. It appears when in wifi, this phone is getting listed 10 hours usage. It's been exceptional on Wi-Fi.

I'll repost Monday how it performs on cellular.

PS: My screen was making a 'clicking sound' when pressed on this new one. Happend when battery was low. That went away when phone cooled. That's another topic all together.
