Iphone 5 signal loss

Anyone else having a problem where when you lose signal for a lengthy period time such as on the train the phone doesnt find signal again when you are clearly in a area that would have signal. Only way around this for it to stop saying "No service" is to reboot the phone.

It reboots and has signal again

Anyone else getting this problem?

iPhone 5, iOS 6

OK. I have been running 6.1 beta 2 for over a week, and just upgraded to beta 3. I haven't had an occurance of this problem once in that time. And believe me I would of by now if past history is anything to go by.

Therefore everyone I feel confident enough to say, hold on to your devices a fix is on the way to the signal not returning after lost problem. Maybe a week or two away though.

Hello all. I have had this same problem. Go into a no service area e.g. building, basement, or general cellular dead spot for any period of time. mostly over 5 mins or more (I have had less), and my iphone 5 won't then reconnect to the network in a known full bars area.

I tried absolutely everything, and tested every change I made. I have.......

phoned Orange.... No success

Phoned Apple ..... No success (had an apple genius (yeah right) call me. He didn't understand the problem told me it was a battery saving feature by design. I think he made that up on the spot to passify me. Presumed I was an idiot. I am not and I believe I have tested this issue perhaps more than any other on this forum.

Reset network settings, reset and erased all settings, reinstalled ios6.0.1 from iTunes, reinstalled from iCloud backup from a 3GS, restored from iTunes and let it sync, reinstalled iTunes and quickly disconnected before a sync. Redownloaded 6.0.1 and installed again.

Got new carrier settings from orange.

Let iTunes give me new carrier settings.

Tried switching on LTE, tried switching of LTE, tried manual cellular connection. Tried automatic cell selection. Tried switching off location services. Etc etc etc etc till I really felt all was lost.............

I can do this troubleshooting because I have access to a guaranteed black spot at work. The technical apparatus room of a television station. Believe me that room is dead. No phone ever constructed has been able to get a signal in there. It is essentially a faradays cage. so what im saying is i can replicate the problem whenever i like.

Then.........

I updated iTunes to latest version that was released just the other day and restored and erased and accepted carrier settings and to my surprise it has worked!!!!!!!

So far anyway ,,, I'm two days in but have tested the **** out of it. Mostly it reconnects back within 2 mins although I have had to wait 10 mins. bUt hey!! At least it coming back.

I will keep you all up to date!!! Thanks to all other people in this forum. I have followed this thread thoroughly.

So in summary. Get the latest version of iTunes that was realeased 4 days ago. And connect and yes erase and restore following every instruction like the idiots apple want us to be.

I have been an apple user since before the Internet existed. . Only recently have I had personal experience of the inevitable decline.

Steve

Is OS 6.1 going to fix the no service issue, can you update us if the beta does seems to have solved the problem when signal lost for 10-15 minutes.

Is anybody running the 6.1 beta STILL having the No Service problem

Just bought my first iPhone (a 5 ) unlocked from Apple and put in EE SIM in UK and disappointed as the No Service is an issue within the first few days. Worrying from discussions Apple do not even seem to admit there is a problem officially ( amazing considering the number of calls documented in discussion forums ) so no confidence they accept it as an issue and that they will solve it.

Thanks

Paul

Yep, couple of weeks on iOS 6.1 beta and no reoccurrence of the no service / no signal issue.

I can't comment on what is in iOS 6.1, because nobody really knows or is allowed to disclose. All I know is after 3 months of issues using a £600 phone and it not even working properly as a phone, I was almost ready to consider the dark side (android).

I was reluctant to install the beta on my personal phone, but had to see if it resolved the problem after others mentioned it might. So good news as far as I am concerned, i hope it helps you guys when it is released ... Can't be that long now.

I am amazed that with so many people suffering this issue with basic phone behaviour and it has not got more publicity. Reading the forums it does seem very intermittent and effects different networks in different ways, plus if you are always in a good signal area then you want see the problem. There is also an easy workaround, so lots have just got used to it and flicking airplane mode on/off brings service back in most cases. In my opinion, this is worse than the iPhone 4 grip of death, and iPhone 5 map issues.
