Iphone 5 sometimes touch screen unresponsive

Just got my Iphone5 last Friday and found it occasionally unresponsive, I cannot tap into any apps, and sometimes I cannot even swipe to unlock the phone.

But in other times it is fully functional, so guess it is software other than hardware issue. Already tried restore it once, the problem is still on and off.

Anyone having similar issue?

iPhone 5, iOS 6

Since I got my second charger cable, I started using it at work and my IPhone 5 did exactly the same thing.

Whole screen became unresponsive, hardware buttons worked but not the touch screen...

Reading the responses here, I switched chargers, cables and even tried different power outlets.

Every single time I unplugged and used one of the hardware buttons, everything turned back to normal.

Completely puzzled, I looked at the "new" "state of the art" Lightning port and there it was, dust and a piece of lint

from my soft carrying case. Used canned air on it and problem went away.

It may be worth checking your phones for a similar cause...

Just my 2c s...

Been having problems with unresponsive screen. Swipped the Wi-Fi On/Off button 20 or so times today before it turned Wi-Fi off, screen was responding because I could scroll. Twice now I have not been able to end a phone call as the End button did not respond very annoying as one of the calls was international from Malta. Upgraded from a iphone 3 and so far been more than a bit dissapointed.

I've been having screen issues as above. Just upgraded to iPhone 32gb. Screen goes unresponsive, or just a part of the screen, mostly the right side stops responding. Pretty sad when you're trying to use a slider button and it slides fine until you get towards the end, then it swings back to the left. Tapping doesn't work, but screen pages will continue to swipe, then not. Then when it starts responding, it will apparently start responding to some of the things I was trying to do when it was unresponsive. Pretty strange watching your phone on the table start opening apps, and ghost texting to contacts, and even once sent the text. Hard reset failed to have any effect, NEVER had this problem with my 3G and 4 model. Haven't noticed these issues related to charger being plugged in or not. Think I'll head over to the Apple store in a couple days and see about getting it swapped out.

I have just found out this problem with mine. I did some empiric testing and found out something quite interesting.

Same thing, plugged with the lightining cable either to USD port or wall charger, no response from touch screen.

Now, I have a hard case protection, so I don´t have contact with the aluminum body of the iphone. Taking the case off, now touching the aluminum, plugged to the cable, the screen is totally responsive.

It probably has something to do with statics. And also poor engeneering, in my humble opinion.

Maybe this is what is happening with you guys also.

We have noticed this too now and also when you have cold fingers or wear gloves it wont respond. So went to Apple store and they reset the phone, which did not help and I just have not had time to go and take it back again, Not sure getting a new phone will resolve this, but its some engineering issue like others mentioned. Should have kept my 4s.
