Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

@me.com domain gone from alias; can't send or receive email; anyone else?

I am an original iTools (@mac.com) subscriber. I switched to MobileMe and last year to iCloud. I have the max of 3 aliases allowed under iCloud.

Earlier today, 9/26, I could send and receive email from/to all of my 3 alias accounts in both Mac (desktop) Mail client and on iOS 6, but this evening, the "@me.com" version of one alias is gone from icloud.com's accounts preference list, which only shows:

alias_name @mac.com

alias_name @iCloud.com

Trying to send or receive mail from/to -- alias_name @ me.com -- results in either an SMTP Server error (when sending) or a delivery failure notice to a (working) account I sent from, which reads:

Remote host said: 550 5.1.1 unknown or illegal alias: alias_name @ me.com [RCPT_TO]

Reporting-MTA: dns;nk11p00mm-spool002.mac.com (tcp_intranet-daemon)

Arrival-date: Thu, 27 Sep 2012 03:15:46 +0000 (GMT)

Original-recipient: rfc822;alias_name @me.com

Final-recipient: rfc822;alias_name @me.com

Action: failed

Status: 5.1.1 (unknown or illegal alias)

The other 2 aliases both list:

alias_name_here @mac.com

alias_name_here @me.com

alias_name_here @iCloud.com

and obviously work as expected (though I haven't tested to see if "@iCloud.com" variant works yet or not).

Has anyone else experienced this, where the @me.com domain has disappeared as an option for an alias? Did it come back on its own?

I've called Apple Support and the only route we could think of was to sign out of iCloud in System Preferences and then sign back in, which unfortunately did not resolve the issue. I was told there is work in progress that is likely behind this, but there was no ETA for completion other than to check back in 24 hours.

Yes, same problem for me. My me.com alias is my primary email address. Since iCloud conversion, everything was fine, until yesterday morning around 10am Central Standard Time USA. Since then, all messages sent to my me.com address bounce back "rejected by server". How to fix this? It's not the end of the world, as there are worse things. But it would really suck nonetheless if I had to chase this down to all possible account links. Help!

I missed this thread when I originally posted here... (thanks ant1981 for pointing this out)

@me.com email address suddenly no longer working!

I got the date wrong, also. This began on the afternoon of 9/26, like others mentioned above. I also came up through .mac and mobileMe as others above, and was part of the 2 day email outage earlier this month, part of the 1.7%.

You may add me to the list of very disgruntled people who's primary business and personal email address has been shut down for three days now! I've spent over 4 hours on the phone with accountable Apple support personal, and they are going to give me an update on Monday.

This ranks as the worst failure I've experienced with Apple in over twenty years of using their products. Especially on top of the previous recent outage.

Same story here, iTools user mobile me paying user ( family account ) from day one, I have had 5 mobile me aliases for years, all was working fine even after the iCloud move.

Since 4 days now my main me.com alas is gone it now has mac.com ( always had) and iCloud.com

The other 4 aliases have retained mac.com , me.com , and have been added the iCloud.com as well.

It just so happen the this was truly my main one used for countless account online and official communication for years.

Familyname@me.com

Coincidence? If this happened to another one of those aliases I would not mind but this one really Apple WHY?

Apple has really screwed me here.

Anyone knows if there s one helpline to call? Considering some of us are paying for the extra iCloud storage online there should be some help.

Thanks

To contact Support: if you currently happen to have AppleCare, either because you recently bought Apple hardware or have paid to extend the inititial period, you can contact them here:

http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/

You will need the serial number of the covered hardware.

If you are not covered by AppleCare, then - in common with other free email services - there is no free support (MobileMe Support is no longer available) and you may be asked to pay a fee - you should point out that this is their fault and that you shouldn't be charged.

However it does appear that Apple are aware of this and are trying to deal with it, though no resolution time has been announced.

Sep 30, 2012 3:42 AM in response to Roger Wilmut1

Still no resolution for me. My support contact is off until Monday so will wait until then and happily share any update.

Was interested that Roger comments that Apple are aware of this. Apart, obviously, from the experiences posted on here that mean we know the issue is at some level at least in the system, has there been some public comment that I have missed?

As I have indicated above, it is my main business address that has gone. Because I was in France dependent on (very expensive) mobile roaming when this happened, it has already cost me quite a lot of money in call/data charges alone. There is also potential loss of client contact and business delays with consequent cost and inconvenience. If not resolved I will have the cost of reprinting stationery and business cards etc. However it ends up, this means I will be seeking compensation. (Although I am sure the small print will make it difficult!)

As commented above this is the worst Apple failure I have come across in my (long) largely very positive experience.

same problem as everyone else. i have several aliases with .mac and .me variations. all got a .icloud added and one lost the .me. unfortunately the one that lost it is my primary email address, which is extremely troubling. the other .me's still work fine. i set up a call from apple (i have applecare), but they never called.

This is absolutely terrible. I don't think anyone who says this is one of the worst Apple mistakes in recent history is being dramatic. I'm having the same issue as everyone here and it's mind-numbingly frustrating, especially seeing that Apple really has no idea/concern for what's going on. Sure, everyone ar Apple support I've talked to has been extremely pleasant and professional, and my status keeps getting "elevated" to more important status, but I still have no solution. This is my main email account and now no one can reach me at my me.com alias. I have business and bills coming in at this address! Honestly, for the first time since I signed up for iTools a decade ago, I'm considering taking my business elsewhere.

same problem for me. i have this @me alias since the lauch of mobileme and using it for my main email adress aswell. i called applecare benelux and they said that there where a couple of servers down... dont realy know that could have been the problem but yea.. i had to wait until monday/tuesday so see what happens.

changing my email isnt that big of a deal, becasue its my personal address. But the emails that are comming on that @me address will probably get lost and i will never know what I got/will get..

But hopefuly it will get fixed very soon!

Spoke with Apple technical support in Australia today. They told me they could see that my @me.com alias was inactive. They say this is now a "known issue" with the iCloud change over and that the iCloud team anticipate the alias to be re-activated within the next 1-2 weeks!! I suggested this was perhaps not good enough considering losing a primary email address will have a huge impact. They told me nicely they have "escalated" my problem on the system....

here's hoping it's not 2 weeks!

Oct 1, 2012 3:51 AM in response to ant1981

Thank you for the update, at least there is hope since Apple seems aware, but two weeks OMG that is surely painful for many of us.

I just wonder cause reading this discussion it seems that the @me.com alias that went missing was the main one for many/most of us? Like I said I have had five aliases and all are fine expect the one I depend on the most. Go figure, I wonder if there is a mysterious pattern here..

I even cheked the other apple ID I have had ( I had the mobile me family account for which I paid faithfully each year ) and following the iCloud transition become full standing Apple ID’s with their own five aliases , and all are fine @me.com and @mac.com still present plus the “unwelcome to me “ iCloud.com

Why did it have to be my main one it’s really a puzzle.

Me hoping Apple care calls me this evening ( according to schedule ) so that they at least
acknowledge my problem and provide some solace/timeline for a solution.

Thank to all for sharing
