iPhone 5 Camera Horrible Purple Lines Down Pictures!

Thanks. I am kind of stuck now. Want me to wipe my phone and use it without any apps on it for at least a week to try and reproduce the problem. I really don't have the time for this, and I kind of need my phone. We don't have the luxury of Apple Stores nearby.... Hope we get one soon. It seems like the store is far more responsive compared to the telephone support. The big issue is that it is hard to reproduce! It only happens now and then, and I haven't been able to reproduce it on demand! (And of course it happens in the middle of my sons presentation at school... :-( )

No, it's not a software issue - definitely hardware. Like seattlejoe7, I was in and out of the Apple store within 30 minutes with a new iPhone.

100% hardware issue because even updated to latest ios and factory reset, problem still persists, not jus in camera app but other apps too. do a screenshot the next time it appear and after few go and show to them and print out this discussion too. even though my country doesnt have apple store, my telco straightaway replace mine after showsing the screenshots without question ask. good luck mate!

Good tip - I was wondering how to reproduce it and think it often happened after I had been outside... could be to do with the cold then ;-)

dkawa28 - are you still "purple line free" ? I have 6.1.2 but have the problem still.

I got the purple streaks the 2nd day after I got my phone and I restarted my phone, it was fine.

But the problem occurred again the following week and right now (a month since I got the phone), it's really bad.

It usually happens when I use the camera from the locked screen and the streaks are really persistent sometimes the whole camera screen goes purple and then the phone hangs.

I notice it happens when I try to use the AE/AF Lock on the camera and each time the blue box is trying to focus, the purple streaks appear.

The worst was yesterday when I used the camera from the locked screen, got the purple streaks, exited the camera, and used it again, then exited due to recurring purple streaks and screen, did this for 5 times.

I plan to change the phone but I just want to ensure that all those who have changed their phones do not see the streaks again?

i too am having this problem, i'm not sure but i get a feeling it is when there is low battery, i'm on 100% now and it's not happening, i'll wear down the battery and see then.

Yep I am still purple free.. the firmware update worked out for me...no purple lines for me...

Hi, just recently when trying to take pictures I experienced the purple lines issue which was strange as I have taken great care with my phone, the phone I have is the iPhone 5. So I assume we don't yet know the cause of this issue or anyway in which we can fix the problem? as I have tried all of the above (other than replacing the phone). It only seems to happen when I am taking photos outside in the bright light as opposed to indoors as then it doesn't happen. I would attach a photo but I am unsure how, but this is definitely the lines issue and not the haze!

Perhaps unrelated to your problem, but I have had purple streaking in photos after my processor in my digital camera failed. This was a hardware problem in my camera. I hope this doesn't mean the same for you with your phone.

i have also the same problem with my iphone5... but it happens whenever and wherever...whether im taking pictures in bright or dim lights or normal lights

my camera also takes hazy pictures with the flash on....

I had the issue in the first couple of weeks after I got my iPhone, but the problem never appeared since. I guess it was solved by a software update.

it will come back one day, trust me its a hardware problem.

My iPhone has now started doing it in low level light too!!!

I have the same issue, however I've yet to be quick enough to take a screenshot of it occuring. I've booked a Genius Bar appointment for Thursday and am hoping to get a replacement device - this will be my 3rd iPhone 5 since release date if it's replaced on Thursday. Also I noticed when taking photos with the flash in darkness photos would come out like this, as if I've put an effect on them from Instagram.

Please excuse the content of the photo, but this was during me trying to figure out how to make it occur when I take it in to the Genius Bar as it doesn't do it on demand.
