Whoa there seppi!

I wasn't making any comments against you!

I was making a statement that could help.

You don't have to install iTunes first to use Copy Trans. When i first got my windows 8 Laptop i immediately installed Copy Trans and never installed iTunes and everything works perfectly fine. I can sync my iPod and iPad with no issues.

Sorry you took that personaly.

It is now 23 Jan 2013. I have been trying for several weeks to install iTunes for Windows 8. I have downloaded the installer file (iTunes64Setup) and tried running it. Each time I try, a message appears on my screen "This app can't run on your PC. To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher".

I am running Windows 8 (64 bit -

My computer seems to see my iPod and recognise it; but it can't/won't install iTunes.

And when I try to run the DriverUpdate-setup file it starts to run, then a message "An invalid file handle was associated with C:\Users\Peter\AppData\Local\Temp\swu [OK box]".

And I don't have a folder called C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple

What I've seen is that there are probably some here who have "Upgraded" to Windows 8. Upgrading Windows has never been a good choice. It is better to start fresh or uninstall all your software first, then uprade.

iTunes is known to literally invade a Windows machine and get into places you wouldn't imagine, but no worse that the native Windows Media Player. Still, Apple does a ****-poor job of making everything 100% compatible with Windows. Granted they are not a software company and hence the lack of emphasis here. They are a hardware company. So you're bound to find bugs, especially in their incomplete uninstall processes, which is sadly common in the Windows world since MS doesn't do much to ensure quality from various vendors.

IF you were suckered into upgrading, then you should find your nearest techy and beg them to help you. Tell them that you need to find a way to completely remove iTunes, then start over. If they are worth their salt, they will probably grumble and mutter something about iTunes being a piece of garbage, which they also have to frequently fix on their own computers since they probably got suckered into Apple pretty little machines, as well.

Again, never... EVER... upgrade Windows. ALWAYS clean it off and start over.

And while I'm at it, the same would be wise for ANY OS, OSX is no exception. Oh the horror stories I could tell you.

I worked for hours trying to get iTunes on my computer and it has windows 8. I finally found a way to do it. There was someone on this site that had the correct way, at least the way I was finally able to do it. It was from a comment by Taluka. It said to go directly to support.apple.com/downloads/ when you get to that page make sure you hit the download button underneath the one you want, and then you get the save or run option. I clicked run and started downloading and then I didn't have a problem getting everything going. Just make sure to hit the download otherwise it'll take to you the home page and then it won't download.

Good Luck!!!

Have read every post in here, and tried the various options, but still no luck. New Sony 64 bit Windows 8 computer (probably not W8 Pro). Finally did manage to download the "iTunes64Setup.exe" file (not easy - both run and save got to 98% doenload before stalling - not sure how I eventually got it) , but as soon as I run it (either as Administrator or otherwise) I hit the "This app can't run on your pc - to find the version for your pc, contact the software supplier".

So what is the solution?

In the meantime my ipad is cut off from the mothership....

Did anyone manage to get past that blockage?

I downloaded the new version of itunes 11.0.3.42, and for the installation here is the instruction this is work for me.

  1. Create a shortcut of itunes installer
  2. On shortcut installer right click and click the properties
  3. On properties click compatibility tab
  4. Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for"
  5. And select Windows & check "Run this program as an administrator".
  6. Then OK. And run the itunes installer through shortcut.

Running on W8 Pro 64bit

Good luck guys.
