It works exactly the same as it always has.

Chris, we can at leat agree that for JLynn1981 it doesn't work in the preferred way?
Right. It does not work the same as before.
I am very lazy when it comes to adding art work, but seeing how cool coverflow made it look, I was willing to spend the time adding art work.
Last time I tried with this new iTunes version. I just gave up, 'cause it is definitely not as easy as before. I was very familiar and comfortable using the space as Mark Block is showing

The "by the book" way still works as before: select a song, hit CMD-I on the keyboard, choose the Artwork tab, then add your artwork; or select multiple tracks, hit CMD-I and add artwork while in the Info pane, where you can change the metadata of many tracks at once. It's not that hard, but it's kind of "un-Apple" to not have a simple drag-and-drop way to do it.
However, because the "Drag Artwork Here" message was so visible in the box on the lower left, most users did it that way. Apple's interface designers seemed to encourage it! If Apple was so concerned with what most users do (the purported reason for dropping Cover Flow), it wouldn't have removed that artwork box from the bottom of the Sidebar, or at least it would have added a new, simple drag-and-drop feature for artwork.
Personally, I'd like to be able to select an album in Albums View or a selections of songs in Songs View, then right-click to choose "Paste Album Artwork" after I've copied artwork from Amazon or Google. Right now you can "Clear Downloaded Artwork" or "Get Album Artwork" (from the iTunes Store), but not paste it from the Clipboard. And yes, Chris, I've sent Apple feedback.

Yes.
so back again on iTunes 10.7... what a revelation!
This is why I avoided upgrading to latest itunes version for as long as possible. I knew I would lose things I liked about earlier version. "Upgrading" backfires fairly often. When I recently misplaced/lost my ipod, I decided to get a new one so I could listen to my extensive librabry besides just on my computer. Lo and behold, can't synch new Ipod unless I upgraded my itunes version. Of course, I lost the pleasing asthetics of cover flow. I was nervous they would also do away with the great visualizer (thank goodness they kept that.)
Coverflow is gone as far as I gather, boo.
To the commenter mentioning something about cover flow not looking good on windows- nothing is farther from the truth. PC/windows 7.
Sorry to say I have always vastly preferred windows /PC to Mac products. I really like the clean slick appearance and simple graphics that are simple to use of Mac produsts/packaging but I find you have a ton more control over everything with Windows. Mac does everything for you and seems limited. To each his own.
Anyway, I'm with the other guy who may be converting to another system/music library. But hard to let go of the cool visualizer. Please don't do away with that too Apple. Thanks.
Has anyone discovered any good alternative plug-ins or apps to cover flow? Coverstream developer site is gone, so wondering if there is something out there. I got a new phone, so I had to upgrade to iTunes 11 and ABSOLUTELY HATE IT !! It is convoluted, does not view your library the same way.
Please share your Macintosh COVER FLOW alternatives, because APPLE EXECS have said that Cover Flow is gone and in no uncertain terms, that it will NOT be coming back.

The suggestion of mediaflow a few posts back while a little involved is probably the best answer to THAT question.
If i might also suggest looking into the port of songbird which is still supported nightingale.
I haven't followed up on this myself but it looks promising.

I have also weakened and allowed the horrible 11 onto my Mac BookPro. My main playlist is made up from music and music videos. After a music video has played I get full screen art work for the audio tracks, but can't find out why or how to make this happen without playing a video track first. Any ideas, it is an improvement over mini-player if not as good as coverflow?

Those of you that care Nightingale has just been released. It combined with the new WhirlyBird extension is even better than the old songbird + mediaflow duo. No modifications need to be made whatsoever just install and go. Here is a screenshot and i have to say it looks 1000x better than iTunes 10 OR 11.
BIG TIP!!
Those of you on windows who experience a initial crash when playing music:
This is due to a problem with the MASHTAPE. Please disable mashtape and restart. This should stop the crash.
Please note this has nothing to do with the release. This is a problem with mashtape and only with mashtape.
Nightingale is a very nice app wt the songs lyrics and other things, I'm still finding. I cant seem to view it's coverflow option though. Is there something in the app, I have to alter in the view options, or is there a specific add-on I have to apply. I'm using Version: Nightingale 1.12, Build 2432 (20130415130532) Thanx ...
