It appears that there are some glitches-- Nightingale will not open, and Firefox prevents even downloading the Whirlybird. I tried to go to the thread and Apple says I am not allowed to view it, but backtracked to here. Anyone have Firefox and OS 10.9 experience?

You know im getting sick and tired of the censorship around here. Its bordering on anitrust issues.

Whoever is deleting my posts should be careful cuz karmas has a way of coming back on you.

@HWStone i dont own a mac. And probably at this point never will. So i cant help you troubleshoot.

Try the nightingale channel on mozillas irc server.

Lets see that pic of nightingale and whirlybird one more time.

Hi Ren,

Yes, after looking long and hard, there is:

Try the iTunes Visualizer "Cover Version". It's free.

Works exactly as I like it: Full screen view of the cover and the title playing.

I am not sure if Cover Version supports the reflection + "coming up next" effects of Cover Flow, but these two effects are bit dated to be frank... for me the main point is having a nice full screen view with the cover of the currently playing album, that how I configured Cover Version.

Maybe this is something for you?

Good post, hadn't checked that one out yet and I have to say Cover Version is about as close as anyone has come to a decent alternative to Cover Flow. Nice find, Daniel! Works within iTunes, so you don't have to use a separate program (big plus). Full screen, etc. It looks pretty slick, although the typography is not as beautiful as Apple's and kind of crammed down on the bottom of the screen. Biggest disappointment for me personally (although others might not care)... It doesn't include the album name.

Thank you, Affenpinscher! Yeah, I first downgraded to 10.7, but that's not really a sustainable solution (Apple really pushes you to update, I felt like Don Quichotte) and Cover Stream mainly worked, but was not stable and somewhat cumbersome as an external app... Moving away from iTunes it not an option at all for us, too deep in the iEcosystem. Cover Version is the best I could find for a nice full screen view that shows the cover. This solution stays intact when upgrading iTunes (say from 11.0 to 11.1).

You can change the typo (size, color and font) in the settings. I have Cover Version set to Helvetica 100 / maybe checkout what is the original Cover Flow font and try to re-build it in Cover Version (please post settings).

Album name is gone... I personally do not miss it because I have the cover in plain view, so I would find the album name to be actually redunant/clutering the screen with no value-add. However, if you feel the album name would be good to have, drop an email to the developer, seems to be one guy's project (Heiko).

There is another option, actually, which we use, and which shows cover, track/artist AND album - and also "play progress" (which I find missing in Cover Version). We often play iTunes through a full screen media player app called PLEX. PLEX can access the iTunes library, including playlists, smartplaylist, and podcasts. We have our iMac mainly for media playback and not much else, it boots up with PLEX in full screen mode.

I am not at the right computer to show you a screenshot from my setup (not my music 😉), but this is from the web/how it looks:

PLEX is also free, and again, it can access the iTunes library, it is not an separate music player if used in that way.

The combination of PLEX and Cover Version is OK for me, but I keep sending Apple request to re-include Cover Flow.

Hope that helps.

Hi, everyone! After going back and forth on what to to do with iTunes 11, I really downgraded for good.

I sold my Mac mini i5 I had as media center and bought and old one, in which I have installed MacOs 10.6.8, iTunes 10.7 (as it came with iTunes 8) with it I have recovered cover flow and front row.

The idea came to me as I still have and old G4 mirror door which is frozen in time with updates and so on, and as music center goes well ( no way as media center is very limited with movies) and lacks remote control. But the Mac mini supports all very well.

For my work I keep a new one, where I'm obliged to use iTunes 11 ( can't still stand it)

It keeps erasing my covers and all the stuff we have all complained in the past.

Fortunately there are no known issues with this kind of Mini's, they seem to be rock solid and hope it will last at least the time Apple will upgrade iTunes for what it was.

The thread is still alive, and Cover Flow will still be alive in the Mac OS Finder with the upcoming Yosemite. The Cover Flow icon was the first thing I looked for in the Finder windows when Craig Federighi did his demos at the WWDC today. Apple continues to build it into the next generation OS, so clearly it's not corporate design policy to eliminate it.

I saw that iTunes gets a new icon, and presumably it will get a new version by next fall, hopefully with better sorting features in the Albums view or Cover Flow restored.
