The thread is still alive, and Cover Flow will still be alive in the Mac OS Finder with the upcoming Yosemite. The Cover Flow icon was the first thing I looked for in the Finder windows when Craig Federighi did his demos at the WWDC today. Apple continues to build it into the next generation OS, so clearly it's not corporate design policy to eliminate it.

I saw that iTunes gets a new icon, and presumably it will get a new version by next fall, hopefully with better sorting features in the Albums view or Cover Flow restored.

I was also looking for any clues to the future of iTunes during the keynote today. With the Beats acquisition and new OS my fingers are crossed for a better iTunes...maybe the return of Cover Flow in iTunes 12? I'm glad this thread is still alive. How can 78 pages be ignored!?

Coverflow showed Apple's classic ability to integrate COVER ART and MUSIC in the digital age and make it relevant. And yet it's gone.....except on the i-Pod classic for some reason. Someone could go through literally thousands of albums and find what they wanted in seconds. Now folks have got to READ what they once recognized by the cover. It's like Apple forgot everything it has learned about art, the user experience and digital interface.

Truly disappointing it's gone.

Too learn more about Cover Flow, read this:

It's unclear whether or not patent law trumped Apple's ability to continue using Cover Flow, but belly up....the stock is doing great and it's time for Apple to support what customers want not unlike what they originally did by introducing this product to us!!!

Disappointing.

Personally, I think the 'click wheel' on the original i-Pod and the 'cover flow' did more to move most folks from CDs to digital music than anything else. While I recognize that things inevitably change, nothing that has been introduced since then that has improved the user experience (in my opinion).

It was one of the few user experiences that differentiated itself from Microsoft and it's a shame to see it pushed aside and not replaced with anything more relevant. Just my opinion.
