iTunes 11: why can't show album artwork preview of songs that is not currently playing??!!

Just installed iTunes 11, I like 'what's next' function very much, good job on this. BUT:

Why album artwork preview of songs that is not current playing cannot be seen??? Why, I don't understand......

Don't you feel the Songs page is half blank???? I know you can see the big album cover pop up when you click the mini album thumbnail for the song that is playing, but you can't do this for songs that is not playing, like in iTunes 10.

In iTunes 10 you can actually choose how album artwork will be displayed (click or play) which is very useful because I like to browse my artworks while playing songs, and I have different artworks assigned to each song!!! Now I can't view them.

Please add back this function, clearly Song tab is so white and blank, it could use some artwork.

Yes I can view all album cover artwork in album tab (album tab is very nice now), and artist artwork in artist tab.

But thats one picture for one album/artist.

When I go to the song tab, I would like to view artwork assigned to each song by clicking them (I tried to give each song a picture). Which was possible in iTunes 10 (displayed bottom left on the sidebar, and you can increase the size by making the sidebar bigger), but no longer possible in iTunes 11 (maybe there is a way.....)

You don't get a "full screen full of artwork" when you view the songs in list view, which is how some people with a huge music library (I have 23,000 songs) are viewing it. Please don't assume everyone else is using the iTunes the way you do.

I actually have more than 100Go of media in iTunes. I fully understand your comment and I had acknoledge it in my previous answer. Here in a user-to-user forum, we are trying to help as user, not as Apple designer.

If you read my posts, I too said that I miss the artwork viewer. My point was trying to make sense of the decision Apple made by removing this feature and the only logic I can see is in regard of the album view. You must agree that the list view is kind of put aside with the new interface. Form an artwork view, it could had made sense to remove the artwork viewer.

If you were relying to the artwork viewer as much as I do, you will like the turn around of clicking on the small artwork to get it larger in a seperate screen; on dual monitor it not so bad (but I don't assume you got two monitors... just saying). That's the only option I found so far to compensate the lost. The only other choice you have is to not update but this option could never last the long run so take time to send your feedback to Apple using the feedback page.

Agreed, in 10, you were able to enable showing artwork in list from the same contextual menu allowing to add/remove column. It's no longer there in 11 for list view which is a gap left there probably beleiving that people will start using the album/artist view. But those view aren't equivalent; the list view with small artwork take less real estate and allow you to scroll more effectively.

Let's hope these flaw will be returned after some updates.

You can also, like in previous versions, just press L to get to the current song. I find myself having to do that quite a lot, since returning to the Artists tab from somewhere else resets the view to All Artists at the top. Annoying.

I'm also wondering how to change the default artwork for an artist or genre. In iTunes 10, I could hover over the artist element and, when I'd found a suitable artwork, right-click to make it the key artwork. Anyone find how to do this in iTunes 11?

I totally agree on the comment "

The artwork preview for selected song is essential for an effective, efficient iTunes experience for the way I use the program."

I also use showing artwork on songs not currently playing as I have different artwork for different songs/remixes.

Apple must please add this back - it was also an easy way to get artwork in or copy artwork to different other songs/albums..

Can you roll back itunes to 10.xx?

Thank god I didn't upgrade my main iTunes Mac to version 11. A huge part of my iTunes enjoyment is maintaining high resolution artwork for my 2000+ albums. Apple has taken this joy away with iTunes 11 - nearly impossible to deal with when you have to play a song to view artwork - Ugh, ugh, ugh. Is there some kind of alternate music player when the time comes that I have to upgrade from iTunes 10.7??? I really think iTunes 11 is a clunky mess - seems to be the way Apple software is headed sadly.

Just downloaded the update - not a happy bunny with it. I have about 100gb music in my iTunes collection & one of the tings I always liked (& found essential) was the feature to see (cover flow?) the artwork for all of the albums I had uploaded as a collection along the top of my iTunes. This has disappeared. I find this bleeding annoying. This one of the features that made me install iTunes in the first place. I also appreciated being able to display artwork in the bottom left so i could see if it had copied/been uploaded to all the songs on an album. The new "Up Next" feature doesnt really cut.

All I can say is I've sent in my feedback - but like all large corporations I'm not 100% confident that the no-dick who reads it will be that bothered.

Thank you Apple for ruining (for me at least) one of the best features on iTunes. I guess I'll have to look for another music browser

Ah, I missed an earlier post with the solution. Now you dbl. click the artwork icon on the left of the control pane. You get a very nice interface. On multiple monitor systems, in full-screen mode, it puts the artwork interface on a secondary monitor.

"Album artwork for the currently playing item appears to the left of the progress bar. To view album artwork at a larger size in a separate window, click the artwork."
