Rating songs via Remote app

I used to be able to change a song's rating via the Remote App. With the 3.0 Remote App upgrade, this capability seems to have been lost on the iPod Touch platform, but is still available from the iPad. Am I missing something???

Yes the feature is there on the ipad, it's the iphone that is the problem as the rating is not available on that which is the problem. Its not the app at fault because that works on the older version of itunes. It's how the app on the iphone communicates with the new itunes that is the problem. Many of us used this feature and are not happy that it is no longer available. We cant carry round ipads just to be able to rate the songs!

Justin - you'll notice that the post begins by indicating that someone else, in a different post in the thread, made a reference to the issue being with iTunes 11, not the remote app. Since the feature works with an iPad, the issue is not with iTunes, and is strictly a forgotten/missing feature from the app on iPod/iPhone.

Apple - please bring back ratings in the Remote App for all iOS devices!

That's what I thought as well until someone tested the new remote app with an old itunes library and found that it worked! I did the same and yes, I can confirm that they are right. The new iphone remote app works fine with the old itunes version, but when it remotes the new itunes 11 the rating option is not there. This gives two ways to get the rating option. Either use the old remote version (2.4) with itunes 11 or the new remote (3) with the old itune version (10.x).

Seems silly that Apple have overlooked such a major feature/compatibility so we all couldn't agree more with your statement but it is itunes 11 that is causing the problem

I think the reality is that most people wouldn't want the hassle of downgrading their iTunes in order to get the rating feature working. If rating tracks works on the iPad version of the Remote app, however doesn't on the iPhone version, surely it's a feature Apple needs to address with the iPhone application.

All other solutions are workarounds simply mask the fact it was missed in the development of the Remote app.

Why is no one from Apple weighing in here. Do they even read these posts? All us customers tossing around ideas does no good.

I emailed iTunes support and they told me to call Apple Customer Care. They're basically recommending that I pay to get them to tell me the remote app doesn't rate songs.

Woudl love to see someone from Apple at least tell us they're considering fixing it or they're going to leave it as is.

Something tells me that Apple is working on the fix as we speak. Nevertheless the number of post in this thread proves that rating feature in the Remote app seems to be of great importance to many users. The ability to rate my ever swelling library without being enslaved to the desk chair while keeping the screen asleep saves us a lot of precious energy so why not to bring this feature to the forefront of the app or simply embed it in most of the view modes. Having to pass 3 screens with couple of clicks in different spots of the screen just to get rating to work is totally counter intuitive.

Come on Apple, you have the ideas and suggestions pouring down on you here. Make use of it, where's a will there's a way, they say.

Thank you for this forum post. The forums seem to be the only way to identify features that are missing or changed from the update to iTunes 11. I have been a fan of Apple software for a long time, but the upgrade to iTunes 11 has driven me to regularly provide feedback to Apple through the "Provide iTunes Feedback" option.

I miss being able to rate songs using my iPhone. That was my favorite feature of the Remote app. They take away a useful feature like being able to rate a song, but they add odd features like being able to switch the screen of my desktop Mac to show the iTunes Visualizer while I'm in another room.

The rest of my time with iTunes 11 has been trying to sort out the deltas between the different display options when using the Songs, Albums, or Artists screens. Search results disappear when switching to a different window. Sometimes the search results persist between different View options. I'm also unclear on why we have a dropdown for View in the Playlist, but not from the Main Music window.

I keep thinking I should just downgrade back to iTunes 10, but that is painful. However, the frustration of tyring to make my peace with iTunes 11 will make downgrading worth the effort.
