Apple Maps - My business location is wrong, and I don't have any iDevices to fix it

My customers are getting ****** off at us because they're constantly getting lost and are late for their classes. I've tried the other solutions in the forum (Yelp, Localeze, Tom Tom) to no avail. I then called Apple, and they informed me that Apple Maps has no contact emails or phone numbers where we can get the problem worked out directly.

I'm hoping I have more luck here.

My business is:

Pepper's School of Music

San Antonio, TX 78260

I believe Apple maps is sending people to the middle of the neighborhood, but I haven't seen the exact location because I don't currently have an iphone.

Here is where the marker should be:

Google Maps - http://goo.gl/maps/YMkIW

Bing Maps - http://binged.it/121qDFC

Mapquest - http://mapq.st/UOBekp

Could one of you awesome members please correct the marker in your maps app? Or could someone from Apple Maps please contact me directly?

Thanks so much

Barrett,

To Further add to this,

In Apple Maps iOS6

If you key in:

Pepper's School of Music

San Antonio, TX 78260

It plots to 119 Mountain Echo

Timberwood parl Texas, 78260

.

.

.

However, if I key in:

Pepper's School of Music

27514 Timberline Dr.

San Antonio, TX 78260

Maps finds the address correctly.

Is there another Pepper's school of music.

Is the Mountain Echo address completely inappropriate? Did you move? If so, I can report that as incorrect.

Preston, this is a tricky one. Is 1175 Westminster Ave your old address? I am seeing several yellow page sites on the Web that had that address for you - looks like you have updated it though. Here's what I think could be going on:

1. You are not listed in the main business listing data providers that Apple Maps uses - Neustar Localeze, Acxiom and Factual. You may have been listed in at least Localeze at some point because I seeing the westminster addresss on sites that use Localeze. So it's possible that Apple got your old data and now because you are not listed in these providers with the new data, Apple is just showing your old location for some reason.

2. The first step is to add your business to Localeze, Factual & Acxiom and wait to see if that works. If your old data is still all over the web, that may make it tricky to update Factual as they rely on looking at what other sites say about you and if a higher % have your old data then they may not accept your update which could cause issues for Apple.

3. You should also use the Report a Problem function in Apple Maps to tell them that the address is wrong. And get as many people as possible to do this so that Apple gets the message.

Lucas,

Thanks for the feedback.

• I see that your web site is now updated correctly.

• Yahoo search has your old address listed too.

• Also, I just submitted a detailed address change to Apple and business name to Apple. With a business category of Advertizing, and stating your telephone number from your web site.

It's not clear what's going on with your listing. There are a couple of things I recommend:

  1. Add a listing to Factual.com. You are not listed there and it's one of the primary databases Apple Maps uses for business listings data.
  2. Same with NeustarLocaleze
  3. Report the problem via Apple Maps "Report a Problem" feature and submit the correct information and categorization (your business is currently categorized as "Active Life"). Get as many people as possible to do this as it might be more visible to Apple Maps if there are a lot of submissions. I have reported it as well.

There's no guarantee this will work, but until Apple Maps provides a business claiming solution, it's your best shot.

I am guessing the issue is that you had an old Yelp profile with your old address(assuming that 2815 is your old address) because I see your Yelp URL has a -2 at the end (http://www.yelp.com/biz/one-down-dog-los-angeles-2) implying that there was a previous URL. If that's the case, it's possible that the old URL is still in Yelp's database that it feeds to Apple which could be why your old address is still sticking in Apple Maps. Pure speculation of course.

If you do this stuff and it works, please let us know either here or on my blog. I am trying to keep a list of all of the solutions that work to share with others who are having problems. Good luck!

Barrett,

An Idea,

I can't say what the timeframe for correction to your address will be,

But if you are interested and have the time, you can go to your local Apple store and pull up the map to see how your your location plots.

You can use and iPad, iPhone or any other device. They are there to be used.

Ok, here's what I think is going on. Not 100% sure, but seems like a good bet.

Apple gets its Australian mapping data from http://www.whereismaps.com/about-our-maps.aspx which is a division of Sensis, the big Australian media company.

Your business is not listed in http://www.whereis.com/, the Sensis map app

According to http://www.whereismaps.com/about-our-maps_map-features_points-of-interest.aspx WhereIs gets their data from YellowPages and UBD. I think UBD is http://www.hardiegrant.com.au/explore/ubd-gregorys which doesn't seem like a business database.

The only Happy Endings biz in Yellowpages.com.au is Leederville:

http://www.yellowpages.com.au/wa/leederville/happy-endings-comedy-club-13796626- listing.html

Your business is not listed in Sensis.com.au:

http://www.sensis.com.au/search.do?partnerId=&find=happy+endings+comedy+club&pro file=yp&location=sydney

I also don't see you listed in Factual.com, another global data provider for Apple Maps.

Based on these issues, it's not clear to me how your business is even listed on Apple Maps unless they are using Yelp.com.au data (i typically see Yelp used as a review source, but not as a source of the listings data).

That said, since they are putting you in the wrong place, I think it could be an issue with the geographical data. I think your best bet is to report the problem here http://www.whereismaps.com/report-map-corrections.aspx and also make sure to add your business to sensis.com.au, yellowpages.com.au, whereis.com, factual.com and any other prominent yellow pages like site in Australia.

No guarantee this will help, but this is the kind of thing that has worked for me in other countries. Let me know how it goes and good luck.
