open .pdf file in Word & "Convert File" Box appears...Weird.

Using my MacBook Pro, I click on a PDF file to open in Microsoft Word & an angry box appears that says "Convert File."

In the box it says: Convert file from: then it lists various file types i.e., Text only, MS-DOS Text, Rich Text Format, HTML Document, Single File Web Page, Unicode Text and many more.

It is trying to open a PDF file in Microsoft Word.

I can't figure out how to change so it opens!!!

I made the fancy document myself in Microsoft Word and saved it in PDF format on the same computer.

I am a new Mac user....so if you tell me to go somewhere (well, not anywhere..on the computer!); please be specific and help me get there!

I've tried the right click trick, open with trick...no luck. That's not even an option!

Just select Preview as the choice and then double-click the document - it should open in Preview now instead of Word.

The file is probably corrupt, download a real pdf (any) and try to open it.

Here's another one...

In the little tiny square, I can see a preview of the preview. Is that as big as preview gets? Because that's not going to work! LOL!

When I go back and try and open the whole thing, it goes right back to the beginning and my tale of woe.

Word won't open PDF documents.

I prefer Adobe Reader for viewing and interacting with PDF documents - http://get.adobe.com/reader/.

But that's because I design AcroForms and Preview 'breaks' with most interactive forms.

OK, what are you using to scan? I know that with my Canon scanner, I can elect to save as PDF but I do most of - all of - my PDF scanning using Adobe Acrobat.

Is the scanner set to save as PDF?

I'm sorry! I did check, didn't realize you had jumped into the convo! I thought I was talking to the same people as before.

Yes, I have tried every single pdf I have ever owned in my last 4 weeks as a mac user.

There have been a few instances I COULD open a pdf and then some I couldn't.

I installed and reinstalled adobe.

Everything is up to date and sparkly.

What's your next suggestion?

Download Adobe Reader from the link I provided below. Then install it. Then use the Command-I on a PDF document to make sure that all PDF files open in Adobe Reader.

No reason why you should be able to open PDF files on your Mac... even ones that you scan or save from Word, etc.

I went back and clicked on the document and POOF! THERE it was!

I was clicking on the document word title....

OK< NOW what?!!!!

How can I SAVE THEM so I can SEND THEM! as a PDF in an ATTACHMENT?!

OK, to save a Word document as a PDF file, simply go to the Print menu (Command P) and click on the PDF drop-down menu:

Just select "Save as PDF..." and choose a place to save the document. You can then use your email application to attach the file to an email.

You did want to do this from Word, right?

Well, yeah, there's always that! I'm just so used to using the Acrobat "Save as Adobe PDF"... but I do most of my PDF creation under Word in Windows...
