iPhone 5 not waking up! Have to press home/sleep button numerous times

had same problem ,i bring it bak to apple nd got a new replacement nd it happened again ... nd suks ,,,,

Mates. I also had/ and have the same issue. I went to genius bar and got a replacement. For being in the safe side, I did not restore my back up and chose "start a new iphone". But after all I faced the same issue again. So this problem is not harware related. This problem is not related to a bug in your softwares.

Does anyone have any idea?

Apple pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease fix this issue. It is not tolerable. Can I change my iphone 5 (which is less than 1 month used) with an iphone 4s?

Switching to an iPhome 4s in my opinion is not a solution. I had the same issue with my 4s and now my iPhone 5 :s!

I realized this problem after updating to ios 6.1 it happens sometimes, but if it happens just wait for like 30s and it will be ok again , but i think its a software bug, as all buttons stop working all together (home , power button etc )

As not everyone has this issue, maybe it happens because of some common way of usage.

I tested the auto brightness on/off. It happens again.

So this is how I use my iphone.

I use assessive touch

There are always about 50 apps which are working in the backgraund

Siri off

Automatic adjust time by timezone on

I close apps that I dont use always to maintain battery life.

I use phone as watch and a lot of times use the wake and sleep button just to see the time, without sliding to unlock.

About 50 apps, but a little less than 50% storage still available/free.

I have a new iPhone 5 with the latest iOS. My iPhone often does not wake up from sleep without a lot of prodding 🙂.

This appears to be an iPhone 5, Apple iOS 6.1.3 software problem and not a hardware problem, based on the large number of other users reporting the same issue.

Such a problem is generally consistent with a lack of resources/RAM. Download an application called SYS which breaks down how much free RAM you have at a given time. Less than 10% is likely to cause such things. Clear out multitasking tray, and you may potentially need to restore as new at some point.

Which still means that there's something wrong with the current iOS for iphone5. iOS is meant to take care of that automatically. My iphone4 or my iPad 3 never has this issue. But thank you for the info. I'll manually kill apps for the time being before Apple releases a fix for it.

Ok that is not iOS problem cz I went bak to apple nd got a new one ( exchanged) . It's been 1 month now nd the home button work fine ( never froze) on the current ios .so go to apple nd get exchange !oh

Actually if it is a hardware problem then it should affect only home button, but it affects all buttons even power button doesn't work, then u wait like 20 s everything is fine as if there is like a timer

I'm having the same problem too. About a month ago my iphone 5 just suddenly became unresponsive. Press home, sleep/wake, slient even put it on to charge and nothing woke it up. It just likes to have a 20 second snooze. Must be hard work being an iphone. Cant seem to explain it. Happens about twice a day, every day. On Vodafone in Australia, iphone 5 32gb. Vodafone customer service said it was static buildup and that a reset will clear it...

Update: I went to Apple Store and Genius told me it's due to lack of memory like hllbnd said. Since not everyone is having the same problem, I demanded a replacement phone and he gave it to me under one condition: I can't demand a replacement for the same problem.

The same thing happened after 2 days. When I checked the free memory at that time, it was 2%. So I guess the solution is like hillbnd said, kill off multitasking tray...which is annoying...

Well not every phone is perfect I guess.

I found the solution

It is not a hardware issue. As some friend mentioned it is because some software issue. I found that this issue is because of some apps which work in backgraund. Maybe those apps demand unreasonable memory or whatever. By the way, I removed some apps and now after one week everything is perfect.

PS. My previous phone had the same issue (not waking up instantly for 2 times a day). I replaced it with a new one and did not back up any thing from the past into it. But the problem continued existing until I removed some apps.

I never kill any app task in the background. Now I have had 35 apps contnously running in the background for a week with no problem. Consequently, the issue is deffinately from one of the above apps.
