iPhone 5 not waking up! Have to press home/sleep button numerous times

Hey Apple peoples

Does anyone have an issue w their iPhone 5 where pressing the home/sleep buttons does NOT wake up the phone in one press? I have only had mine since late Oct 2012 and several times a day it just decides to have an extended snooze. I have to hit the home button or sleep button numerous times before it kicks into gear. Mucho annoying!! Watch this short vid to see what I mean: http://www.flickr.com/photos/go_bombers/8489949001/in/photostream

Phone has been updated w latest software, backed up, restored...nothing will fix it so hoping someone out there has an answer!

Danke schon!

The "iPhone 5" is the very best & & & the worst iPhone ever too! Its full of problems. Very first unite was defective with its aluminum unibody i.e. dent, broken sleep/wake button, purple tint on camera. Now first unit's issues has been gone & new issues has been introduced i.e. slow to respond or hangs home & sleep/wake button, camera not functioning randomly or permanently.

Here is my experiences with iPhone 5:

1. I have brought an iPhone 5 (most provably one of the first unite) immediately when its was released with some dents. After two or three months I got problem with sleep/wake button. It was broken due to very soft material used on it.

2. So, then Apple had changed my iPhone with new one. Surprisingly that one had not any dent & I noticed they have changed the sleep/wake, silent buttons & the volume rocker with different materials which is more dark (black) and hard. But I discovered a big issue that, the home and the sleep/wake buttons was not responding randomly. The screen went off & couldn't be turned on due to not responding buttons.

3. Again, Apple had replaced my iPhone with new one. That time camera didn't work. So, I had sent that to the Apple again.

4. And Yes, they have change that again with another ne device without any question. But after two days I got the problem again that is " the home and the sleep/wake buttons was not responding randomly" and this time is more frequeint!

So, now what should I do? Will go to Apple Genius again to get another new faulty device???

This annoying problem is now happening to HUBBY'S phone too! Have tried properly closing down apps so there's like 4 things running but no love. Sounds like people who have reset or got a replacement phone are still just as peeved and wanting to chuck it against the wall...

No idea what to do from here...trekking to a store is hard when you're 40 mins away from one and will have 2 toddlers in tow...Doubt anyone who can help from Apple actually reads these pleas for help...how else do we get this issue in their face?

It's the Facebook app. Out of your entire list, Facebook is the only app consistent with the issue.

I have had the problem occur for as long as most people here. I even got my iPhone 5 replac3ed on warranty because of the issue. As soon as I got home and set it up to my latest backup and worked the phone for a good afternoon..... boom, it happened again.

Only app I use and have consistantly on in the backgroud is... you name; Facebook.

Maybe we should all test this and if it's so, send in feedback to Facebook of the issue and hopefully they can bring out bug fix update. Just a thought.

So...I finally got around to making an appointment to see a Genius and when I said "hey, I have this problem with my phone not waking up" his immediate response was "are you with Vodafone?".

Apparently there is some conflict with a carrier setting and a version of iOS which is causing the problem. Dude said they are aware of it and apologised but all they are doing at this stage is collecting data from affected customers, sending it back to HQ and working with Vodafone to correct it. Hopefully a future carrier update will fix it.

Are you guys with Voda too?

Hi!guys,

I'm not using Vodafone, instead of Optimus in Portugal.

&...&..& I finally found the solution!

This happening becoz of some apps (most probably Facebook). Now, I always close all the apps before to lock my phone. & the result is: last one month to now I have not that problem anymore!

So, you guys can try this instead of replacing with new phone becoz this will happen with new device too...

Yes, I am using Vodafone. My phone became unresponsive without the Facebook app running in the background today so Facebook app is not the "absolute" culprit. It's been getting better though. Today was the first time it happened in 4-5 days. My sister who was using Vodafone but switched to Telstra is not experiencing the problem so maybe it coincides with what you're saying.
