iMessage not syncing between Mac and iPhone

If I send an iMessage from my iPhone, it will send it no problem. When the other iPhone user responds, it will send their response to my iPhone and Messages app on my MacBook Pro, as it should, but if someone iMessages me without me making first contact, then my iPhone will not receive it, but my Message app will. All account info (Apple ID, password, etc.) between the two apps is correct. I'm running OSX Mountian Lion 10.8.3 on my MacBook Pro and I have an iPhone 4S running iOS 6.1.3. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Was working fine for me until I upgraded to 10.9.2. If someone sends a text message to my phone number it only shows up on the iPhone. Does not show on the iPad or iMac. Fiddled around with each device and logged out and back in. Eventually it all started to sync again and my phone number became an option on the iPad and iMac. Wish I remembered the exact sycquence of events for next time...😉

This worked for me, but I took it one step further and signed out of my iMessage on the MBP as well.

1. Sign out of iMessage on OSX - Messages > Preferences

2. Follow Danlirong's suggestion

3. Sign back in on OSX

* You should see messages in both iOS and OSX about phone number and account being added and used.

Tested sync with a few different numbers and devices and all worked.

Just a follow up, I've done this on about a dozen different phones/computers over the past couple of weeks and it works everytime. I am guessing this probably will need to be done with each OSX / iOS update as it probably causes sometype of connectivity issue, so a reset is needed to put the devices back in sync.

Also, even if someone isn't using Messages and iMessages in combo and you notice you are getting their iMessages on your phone but not on your computer, have them do the reset on the phone and it will begin to sync again.

Hi,

Can you be really clear about what you see happening and what you have done to try and fix it ?

Are you seeing the pop ups on the Mac once you have signed out and signed In again on the iPhone ?

Are you accepting these pop ups ?

I've been seeing a multitude of diff things & from trying all documented fixes this is where I am currently:

  • After hard boots of every device @ signing off on all (MBP, iPhone, iPad), I'm currently unable to sign on to iMessage of iPhone (Could not sign in. Please check your network connection & try again---MSG).
  • I was having success of iPhone & iPad iMessage but in trying to RE-LINK the MBP into the 3 way (which was fine end of June), I've been trying everything to get the MBP linked in also but now NOTHING linked since I cannot get iMessage activated.
  • I am getting text msgs in on iPhone from others but only thru the normal ph#
  • I've tried removing plist, restarts, sign offs, sign ins, airport mode, multiple ways of signing off of iMessage
  • The iPad I was able to sign on to iMessage with no issues of network msg like on iPhone. Same appleID & pass
  • At one point I was only missing the MBP linked into iPhone & iPad & currently trying to get iMessage on iPhone signed IN to at least get back to that scenario which I'm now at a point of only iPhone messaging until I can get signed in ;(
  • I was accepting pop ups before this latest SNAG...& everything said or looked like Mac should have been working but NADA, ZERO so not sure what was going on when POP UPS were all accepted

Hoping you have another option to try &/or get me to sign in success of iPhone then work toward the 3 WAY I once enjoyed.

I've been able to jump start iPhone now & back to SQUARE 1 of iPhone & iPad LINKED...so texts flowing between the 2, or said another way, I can text self & it pops on iPad & vice versa, text from iPad & pops on iPhone...

So now again, I'd love to have the 3 way of MBP doing same...??

Gonna try signing off iPad thinking maybe that does something, then again I'm just throwing DARTS

Are you logging out and staying logged out of your devices until all are in the logged out state? My friend tried my method and was logging out and then logging back in then going to a different device and logging out and back in and never could get it fixed. Then I had him log out of all the devices then log into all the devices.

The other issue I have seen is that this is sometimes an issues with people who devices aren't synced. I have a few friends who haven't updated to the latest iOS version and their messages never sync on all my devices.

All that said, and the fact that this continues to be an issue is something that Apple really needs to get resolved, especially since OSX 10.10 is supposed to take this ability to get messages/calls across all devices. If in ability to keep devices in sync with the server is going to require some manual actions by the user it is going to be a flop because I would guess that most people don't care enough to deal with the inconsistency.

Yes, I've completely logged out with each...going to the extreme of 1st signing out, toggling off iMessage, booting OFF devices...everything possible to completely off servers or systems...AIRPORT PLANE MODE also 😉

Then slowly tried to boot each up in a variety of orders thinking maybe there's something about which device signs in 1st???

I'm updated on MBP. iPhone & iPad not updated to latest & greatest but I'd argue that end of June, week ago, approx, I had NO ISSUES. So not sure if update on iPhone or iPad makes a difference. Especially if iPhone & iPad are perfectly in sync. It's the MBP that cannot do any type of text w/ iMessage & cannot sync w/ anything.

Yes, that was my issues as well, iOS devices synced without problem and MBP would never sync up.

As I mentioned I have a few friends that haven't updated to the latest iOS7 (regardless of subversion) and their messages on occasion come to my MBP but it might be 1 out of 20 messages.

I wish I had a more conclusive answer for you on how to solve this, but the steps I outlined have worked for me and several others I know that were having the same issue. Now if I can just get my friends to ditch iOS6....😁
