Your disk could not be partitioned. Win7 Bootcamp

I'm attempting to load Win7 on MBPr with Bootcamp 5.0 and am getting the error "Your disk could not be partitioned. An error occurred while partitioning disk." No other information leads me to understand the problem. Does anyone know anything about this error and how to fix? User uploaded file

So for those of you that like myself are still getting the error even after trying Frog_T's instructions, the problem may be related to FileVault. I had elected to encrypt the disk when I first set up my Mac. FileVault was stuck and it said plug in the computer to finish the encryption process but plugging in didn't make a difference and the encryption process wouldn't progress.

Unfortunately, I don't have a safer solution other than just reinstallingOS X by rebooting with command+R, erasing the disk, and then reinstalling Yosemite (in my case). I still had access to everything in my hard drive so I could back up whatever I wanted.

Hope this saves you some time, because I had no errors on my disk no matter which way I checked. FileVault was the culprit for me.

The post from neopirus actually led me to the solution for this issue - in my case at least. There seems to be a problem with FileVault encryption, where the process pauses for no reason and then gets stuck at that point. This then seems to block any attempt to format the disk, for whatever reason, whether it be the installation of Bootcamp / Windows, or even simply creating a new partition through Disk Utility. In all other aspects, the disk is fine, and the various verify/repair procedures suggested neither report nor fix any problems.

At the time of writing this post, there is no fix for the encryption problem, although certain users have had success with various suggestions (see FileVault stuck on "Encryption Paused"). I needed to erase all the data on my drive and reinstall OS X, making sure I turned file encryption OFF. Bootcamp then worked perfectly - no partition errors, no problems at all.

I hope that helps someone, and maybe saves them the five hours I wasted trying to overcome this problem.

Thanks so much swissclive. I noticed my filevault was on ''paused encryption'' status, and figured that was stopping bootcamp from partitioning the disk. could not fix the filevault issue, and was forced to restore my mac. when restoring chose not to use filevault, then when OS X was restored, used boot camp to install windows and all worked just fine! after a few hours now I have running OS X and windows 7 via boot camp perfectly!

Thank you! the second part helped me and now windows 8.1 is on my macbook pro 😀 if only swtor and flash fxp was available on mac 😟 but I get the best of both worlds this way, i tried vmware fusion for a while but to use free osx upgrades you have to pay for upgrades and its not cheap.

I appreciate the solution you have provided, am going to save your post to a txtedit file so I dont lose it 🙂

yes Dear Loner T,

Here is what i did at last, after editing info.plist of BCA, i was unable to create a partition via BCA, BUT i was able to initiate windows installation process in the EFI startup mode. then i decided to create a partition manually with DU and install windows on it so i created it but there was another error in windows installation partition choosing page.

Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, windows can only be installed to GPT disks.

I tried to change the partition table but it wasn't successful so i deleted all of the partitions (even mac partitions) with windows partitioning tool and now my computer is running windows but there is no Mac OS. 🙂🙂🙂

When i was creating the windows partition i left 200 Gb of free space for future. Now i am trying to install Mavericks along with the windows installation but when i starting my mac with mavericks dvd and trying to create a partition with DU it stuck on preparing disk for partitioning and nothing happens for hours. 😟. this mac is really driving me crazy.

1. Using EFI boot to install Windows on a preUEFI Mac will cause issues because the Apple BC drivers will not see hardware properly or some will be missing.

2. Once EFI boot is installed using Windows diskpart, you have to manipulate the partitions to allow an EFI partition which will allow Yosemite to put the Apple Firmware in it for booting purposes.

3. Please be aware that you will run into many issues.
