iOS 6.1.3 battery drainage

My I phone 5 is also draining power at an alarming rate since the 6.1.3 update it is getting very hot. I have tried the basic fixes. I have turned off the data network so no 3G data when I am out and about. It is working ok when I am using wi fi and get my normal battery use. Apple please do something about this as I can not use my phone as you have advertised.

I do think that Apple needs to address these problems, but for now, we have to fix it ourselves. We can't just throw away the phone, can we?

I was having the same problems as most of you until yesterday. My 3rd gen iPad and iphone 4s had shown significant battery drainage after upgrading to iOS 6.1.3. Yesterday, April 3, both devices began showing great battery life again. I was able to stop the battery drain before by getting rid of all iCloud syncing. I believe Apple did something on the server side with iCloud to eliminate the problem. Anyone else have a similar experience?

That sounds like a bad battery to me. You said iPhone 4, how old is that device? Maybe have Apple test the battery for you at the store. That sounds like a typical bad /worn out battery more so that any software issue.

I have a rel new..January 22 4S ... Use for lots of stuff. No problem till 6.1 I think. First noticed with CALENDARS. So turned off ..

No one seemed to find a way to stop it on 6.1.2 so I upgraded to 6.1.3 and fine for two days then each day it would go down @ over 10% per hour...Just restored again...and now 0% drain after 4 hours. But I know when I use again ...some **** program will stay on and running and drain it.

Why can't we have an ACTIVITY MONITOR on our phones so we can see which APP is draining it?!

Berle... Yes that is problem. But you want SYS ACTIVITY Manager .. PLUS ..

With it on Memory page (first one) you push recycle button (left) and see your memory freed up right before your eyes! But within minutes even wo using phone it is all tied up doing something again.

It also has a battery recharger part that will perfectly recharge your battery with trickle at end etc. But you

must let phone run down to 10% first and its takes a bit.. haven't used that yet but review are good. This

is very important for battery life I know.

Now any Apple tech with a better program would be able to spot the EXACT programs that are using up the 'Free' Memory.. there I was down to 17%.. hit button and up to 74%! but already down to 65 wn seconds..Something is 'ON and keeps running and draining battery even when not using phone!

I use facebook, safari, and tweetbot a lot.. with 3 twitter accounts ..most suspicious of that.

FYI: No Apps can actually change how iPhone batteries charge. All they do is make you think they are doing something by providing more detailed information, logs, timers, cycles, etc. The battery charging circuits and bulk, stabilizing and trickle charging modes are directly controlled by Apple Firmware and hardware. The charge process cannot be modified or changed except by firmware update. The 10% 'rundown' level you mention is done by the firmware automatically, it uses a higher bulk charge profile (it actually happens when the battery gets below below 20%) and the trickle charging you mention is also done automatically by the firmware. Again; No Apps can change how the battery is charged in any way.

THIS IS FROM OCT 2011 folks has nothing whatsoever to do with 6.1!!

Note he used original version of App I rec. SYS ACTIVITY Manager .. It does tell you exactly which programs are running... not that you can do anything about it!.

The free up FREE memory feature which DOES do something (it turns off programs that should be off).

As for battery charge... I agree w him, thought more knowledgeable would have to tell us. ..Should we all be doing full drains and recharges 3 times before even using phone?!

Well let's see here, it doesn't take a Rocket Science or Geek person to figure out that there is a Software problem. So until Apple correct the issue there is nothing you can do about it. The suggestion being made about turning this off that off only conserve battery life not the battery drain that the software is causing.

When you are accustom to getting 48 hours on a full charge with heavey usage with everything on with the previous software you were using, then you change software now you getting 8 hours on a full charge if you are lucky. That is a software issue what can you do about it is nothing but wait for Apple to fix it. And who knows how long that will take with Apple rushing so many software updates out.

I 'am almost sure that there is something around 3G or location.

In the same condition of use, yesterday my phone used 90% of battrey during my work time.

Without 3G and location, today 25% "only".

Nest step of my test : keeping on location and not 3G.

Is it 3G that eats battery, or allowing mobile data to function (which can also use pre-3G technologies, like Edge)?

Depending on where you are, 3G might be required to have correct phone reception, but mobile data can be switched off independently.

That's a pretty dang good battery life. I'm at 1 hour 34 mins and 59% and all I've done is some light surfing.

I'll try the turning all mail accounts off thing and get back at you.

You should download sys activity manager and tell me if your phone gets really hot. According to the app my phone is always in the "red" section which might be overrheating the battery.

I was kicked out of the forum for a week..lol. Apple doesn't like what I say. But to everyone having problems with 6.1.3 you will have to wait for the next update this month. Fingers crossed that 6.1.4 will fix the battery problem, like 6.1.2 had good battery life, not great, but good....better than 6.1.4 Apple is working on a fix, Apple is aware off the number off people that have been affected by this update, so Apple is getting its tech team to fix it.

Took some time because 6.1.3 was a slow moving update. 6.1.2....millions of downloads the first couple days. If you want to try some of the fix yourself...go for it. But my option is that nothing is gonna work. It's the firmware. Be patient and don't give up on Apple.

I think chrome on any idevices drains the battery. Any third party browser drains the battery. Safari is just fine for me. But other people want more options. Chrome crashes a lot on my ipad mini, plus drains my battery. Ios 7 better be something totally different, Apple needs a change with ios.

Just try to do the fixes in the previous posts. There are just apps that keep on looping. Most of the time, the culprits are iCloud, Mail, Facebook, WhatsApp... For me, I fixed my phone again after two weeks of resetting, and calibrating... Just be patient.
