iOS 6.1.3 battery drainage

iOS 6.1.3 is taken more power than before and the phone is heating as never before.

If i watch a 40 min show on movies apps the battery goes down 50% and and the phone goes hot displaying a message of high temperature.

This has never happen before. Not even with iOS 6.1.1 which i thought was the worst soft ever from apple.

Everyone out there !!! Stick with iOS 6.1.2........for a long time....cause you gonna regret it after....

No wonder that apple with what is doing lately lost so much on stock market.

There no more concern about apple users as it used to be.

All the software updates were related to a lot of issues lately.

I used to be a strong believer in apple products .... but seeing the latest S4 specs makes me wonder maybe it's time to switch on android OS. It seems that more apple users are choosing this opt.

Just curious, you keep saying Apple dont care, have you actually contacted them or visited an Apple store? Your iPad mini is still under warranty. Apple does not respond here if thats what you are referring to and thinking that they dont care because they have not answered your rants. This is a user only forum. Best option for you is to visit an Apple store for resolution. At least for your iPad mini. Which I read in one of your earlier posts you said was fixed now. If it really is not functioning like it should you really should take it to them for fix or exchange while its still new and under warranty (Or perhaps you dont really own Apple gear and are here just stirring up folks guess thats possible too). Hmm

Yes! I just got my phone replaced and it came with 6.1.3 loaded on and it drops three percent for just unlocking the screen and opening a app. Apple as a former apple employee for a year in a half i have never seen such bad quality control failure as this. A great product just lost a great feature - awesome battery life! I do have a iPhone 5 - tried hard reset, network settings reset, turning iCloud off and then back on. Nothing is resolving this issue. Since typing this post ive dropped two percent.

Im experiencing the same as most of you posting here.

I had an iPhone 4 recently,had it for two years..about two weeks ago updated to 6.1.3. iOS and everything was okay,about a day with no charging,but also surfing internet a lot..,then this past weekend I bought a new iPhone 4S from a friend,but he hadnt updated,so I immediatelly updated to 6.1.3. naive that would be okay as it was on my iPhone 4..

in couple of hours my battery was dead,so I charged it to 100% and again in 5 hours I was at 5%..I though it was a wrong piece and wanted to return the iPhone,but now I can see there actually IS a problem. I ve read all the threat and I tried the hard reset after switching off the icloud and other e-mail account..tried it twice,still the same,didnt worked for me at all..charged it to 70% and im 51% in like half an hour!!!so crazy!

not even with Siri off,vibrates off and contrast set for 60%..the battery is just dying in standby as well..im pretty dissapointed.

also thinking about getting an iPhone 5 even though the problem could be there too..

anyways, whats new?are there any news with some 6.1.4. release or some response from Apple?!

I have been having increasing problems since 6.1.3 upgrade. My battery visibly discharges, often in 5% increments it is so fast. I have tried deleting all of my mail accounts and resetting them up but it is just getting worse.

Today I charged my phone over night and it was 100% when I set off to a meeting. I was in the meeting for 3 hours, never touched my phone, and when I came out of it my phone was at 20%, now I have to plug it in everytime I use it.

I cant go back to 6.1.2 which caused me no problems. Has anyone any different ideas.....please!

Glad your phone is back now. So you would concur that there was a setting causing your issue not iOS 6.1.3 itself? I suspect that if you turned that iCloud option back on it may continue to be fine. I wouldnt if you arent using it but somtimes it just gets hung (as does email) and a reset will clear it up However documents and data and safari sync is known to run a lot causing drain for some folks. Has been that way since introduced in iOS 5.0. Thanks for updating us on your status.

It would be interesting to see if your "fix" works after some time. I have managed to "fix" my IPAD IOS 6.1.3 problem battery problem by turning off all iCLOUD settings, turning off all mail, push ..etc. Killed all apps and then do a hard reset.

It works for a day and then lo and behold the battaery drain problem came right back. I believe there is an inherent problem with 6.1.3. Currently the IPAD is just an expensive paper weight as the battery would not last 3/4 hours and the IPAD very hot to the touch. I am really worried something is going to burn out.

Can't believe Apple releases such crap !

So is the 'fix' to go in and TURN OFF ALL ICLOUD 'ons' in SETTINGS? Before updating to 6.1.3? Why dont they just tell you that to begin with? That's what I am doing, we'll see how it goes.

PS re 'corruption' over wireless update... I can't imagine even doing one. I do update apps that way but always use WIRED iTunes to update iOS.. Makes sense to me that works better, especially with my iffy wifi DSL..but that is another problelm.

I hope the fix worked for you. On my IPAD4 with 6.1.3. I have managed to "fix" the battery problem by turnning all iCLOUD settings, push, claendar, hard reset and restore.

It worked for one day and the prolem came right back after that. There is an inherent problem with 6.1.3 . There is no way so many people on this board and other forums encouter corruption problem during over the air update,

Apple is doing major damage to its own reputation by keeping silence !! For me and many other people, the 6.1.3 iDevices now are just expensive paper weight. What good can it be when the thing does not last 3-4 hours on full charge even when on standby !

Sorry to burst your bubble but this battery issue is very minor and not widespread at all. In 15 days there are only 27 pages of posts here, most of which are repeat posters. Considering their are well over 250 Million IOS devices that are IOS 6.1.3 compatible their is a very insignificant 'failure' rate with the 6.1.3 update. If this battery problem occured on even 1% of the updated devices it would be worldwide news on TV, print and tech / news websites. There would be millions of people screaming bloody murder! That is obviously not happenning, if it was you would not be able to avoid hearing about it in the media.

A good example on this support forum is the thread on the Retina MacBook Pro and IR (image retention). There is a percentage of displays from one of the vendors (LG) that shows the IR issue. In the first 3 months after the rMBP was released there were over 500 pages of posts which bogged down the system so much Apple had to reset the thread, now there are another 500+ new pages. and it is just starting to gain traction with a few tech news sources. Keep in mind that the rMBP is a very low volume product by IOS standards, approx 100,000 units per month vs.10 Million + per month of IOS devices.

I believe a very low percentage of unfortunate people here have some unique combination of things that when combined is causing the low battery life issue with 6.1.3..... It would be interesting to know how many people with this battery issue have an iPhone 5 only with no other Apple devices that interact through IOS / OSX / iCloud? Not interested in iPhone 4 or 4S's unless they are new production models less than 1 year old, there is a good chance many of the original 4 / 4S's will have battery issues due to age.

I just got a new 3GS (don't ask) and the battery was dying 1 percent every few minutes, I turned off App Store and icloud, (useless , I know), and it's now stable. But I need icloud between my mac ipad 2 etc, I hope they fix this soon.......

I prefer to read forums rather than write on them.

But since 6.1.3 my Iphone5 battery drains in 6 hours with 3g/4g on. And I am not using the phone, just in standby. 3g/4g turned off and the battery lasts as long as before (and doesn't heat up the phone either!).

2 months old, only syncing with Imac at home. Not a heavy user, but a battery drain without using the phone is frustrating!

Hope this post will add to the many we need for a fix!

Thanks for the Apple history lesson, but whether you believe this battery issue is widespread or not isn't the point. Many people are having the same problem and if their batteries deplete rapidly after an update, something needs to be addressed.

As for me: last night when I plugged my phone in at 11:30pm, I had 76% battery charge left. So in my case I had a corrupted firmware issue from the 6.1.3 update. I don't know what has happened to everyone else. My hope is that Apple with figure out the steps to fix the problem, because eveyone is trying something different. Some with success and others only a temporary success. I do not believe it is a true battery issue, it is a software/firmware issue.

What really gets me is this is far from an isolated problem given many people are complaining in many forums. May be it is the firmware may be it is the firmware itself, who knows. The fact is 6.1.3 have turned many iDevices into toasters and paper weight.

Personally I have sent complaints through official apple web link. Apple has chosen to remain silent instead of acknowledging there may be a problem and it is investigating. This shows that apple doesn't care.

For the record, my iPad 4 is less than a month old and it is completely vanilla with standard software which comes with the iPad only. I did not have the battery problem until the 6.1.3 upgrade.

I have the same battery problems since updating to ios 6.1.3 .

I also had the idea that the problems are caused by the phone trying to connect to a network or anything else. Over night I lost about 50%, in airplane mode just round about 20-25% are going off (what is definitly too much in 7hours). By not using my phone every hour 3-5% drop off.

I've tried all the things suggested in this (and other) threads but couldn´t observe a noticable improvement.

As an idea i installed "Systeminfo", an app which shows the memory usage. This showed, that nearly 50% of the memory are in active use (by not running any other app) (ca. 140MB). In comparison to my best friends active memory (same device; iphone 4s 32GB) his active memory usage is in average down to 50MB.

If you aks me it seems to be either a problem with the updating prozess that causes an app getting stuck or with the firmware.
