iOS 6.1.3 battery drainage

Yes, on 6.1.3 battery life is fairly terrible, but your post says and I quote "An iPhone 5 will never get 8hours of use, unless you're monkeying with it. ..." So no. An iPhone 5 can get 8+ hours of use, just not on 6.1.3. Most versions prior to 6.1.3 were pretty good.

Apple offered me a brand new iphone 5 when my 4s was out of warranty so that's new device & 12mths warranty. All manufacturers have slight teathing issues with phones Android, Windows, or iOS so Apple will do what they can but people need to call them. Manufacturers will see an issue more if we follow process of calling them rather than posting our concerns all the time.

For those of us who have had an iPhone for many years, we never even get to see this option. But yes, you're right, it asks during setup whether you want to turn on location services.

Push has been shown again and again to cause drainage in many handsets.

There are several things to keep in mind:

Those who suffer with the battery drainage issue, many will not even be aware because they don't regularly run their battery down and there are others who just aren't assertive enough to notice that their battery is suddenly running down a lot faster.

Of those who do realise, most won't realise their issues are related to a recent update they performed and the few who do, I'd guess that the majority won't bother posting on forums.

I believe this issue is effecting thousands of people but only seriously bothering a hand full. But looking at the big picture, it's likely still only a small-ish percentage of users.

Out of all the iPhones I've owned (all of em), the iPhone 5 has had the most battery issues. Though likely all software related.

I have an issue with my iPhone I go in to any Apple store and they fix or replace it, no questions asked.

I had my S3 for several days and the paint on the silver bezel started to chip off. Samsung refused to repair the phone under warranty and claimed it wasn't a manufacturing defect.

You'll never find better customer service than Apple IMO. Even if they don't publically acknowledge every issue.

Your numbers are ridiculous. Assuming that every single iPhone owner would come here and post about it is ridiculous. Most people won't say anything. Some come here. Some call tech support. Some don't say anything and live with it.

IOS 6.1.3 battery drain is a big enough issue that if you go to Google and type

"iOS 6.1.3"

By itself, all the hits you get are either Jailbreaking or Battery Drain hits.

My aim here is to cut through all the fanboy smokescreen. The ones who always say everything is fine and it must be "user error", regardless of the issue. Every Apple forum has that. Macrumors bans you as soon as you say anything bad about apple.

I just want to he the voice of reason and give it to people real, as it is.

iOS 6.1.2 &amp; 6.1.3 are problems. With the same settings, my battery % is going crazy. I haven't changed or added anything, yet on iOS 6.0 I had no issues. A quick look on Google will tell you I'm not crazy. People aren't crazy.

I believe, as a user, you should be able to have your phone with all the features apple sold you without having your phone die in 4 hours.

So, I'm trying to tell people to be patient. To reset the phone a lot, and basically just wait for iOS 7. Once it comes out. Update and if you don't have issues, then stop updating the phone.

Not true. Many here have gotten our phones back to normal with simple settings changes / resetting. My i5 works like it used now after barely getting 4 hours of usage after the update, and I have all my features back on just the way they were before. For me it was just turning off a few of the new 'hidden' settings and resetting the phone a few times. No restoring or reinstalling needed.

As usual. This is what happens.

Users have a problem. It's obviously not anyone's fault. Just iOS *****. So, they come here. They say their batteries die too fast after they updated to iOS 6.1.3.

So what's the first thing fanboys do? They blame the user. They say, well, it's your settings. No. It's Chrome. No. It's your emails. You're holding it wrong. Well, i get WONDERFUL battery life, so it must be you. Etc etc.

Makes me sick.

Even though they weren't having an issue before the update, all of a sudden it's their settings or their apps. Or they need to reset this and that.

I thought the iPhone was supposed to be easy to use.

6.1.3 is nuts.

How do you explain my phone going from 100% to 99% in 3 minutes on Facebook. Then I restart the phone. Now it's at 100% and it stays at 100% 16 more minutes?

This started happening since 6.1.2.

You're telling me its my settings? My apps? I need to reset? I need to restore? All which I've done countless times.

Ios has a problem. Apple won't fix it. Why? Because iOS 7 is coming soon. They'll fix it then. In the meantime we are screwed.

All the fanboys here think we are crazy.

Basically they'll say:

1) It's your settings

2) an app is "hanging"

3) corrupt data when you restored (even though they don't know what that means)

Truth is iOS 6.0 was fine, it all went nuts after 6.1. It is an iOS problem. It has a problem. It is a real problem.

I get you. But don't look for sympathy here. They'll try to give you some tips when the tips don't work, all they will tell you is "well. My phone is fine. It lasts 8 hours on 100%".

I agree with you back in ios 6.0.2 I used to leave fully charged and come home at 60%. Now with 6.1.3 same settings I can barely get from 6 AM to 12 PM. I extended some of it by turning off push and many notifications. but it *****. I feel like my iphone 4s is a phone from 2004. What's the point of paying for unlim internet and for a smartphone if you can't use the features.

The sad thing is, even with this I'm still probably going to stick to Apple for future cell phones 😟

Activated Passbook by adding a coupon and I was asked if localization services could be turned on.

Now it shows in the list and I disabled it.

Don't expect it to solve my current battery drain as it was not active.

If it does, I'll post it here.

I'm trying to calibrate the battery by running it down all the way to see if that helps. Yesterday my phone lasted 7 hours and 16 minutes with usage, and this is with using nearly every battery-saving trick in the book. I would imagine not disabling some features like location services, push notifications, and maintaining a high screen brightness would result in battery life around the 5 hour mark, which is absolutely pathetic. My second run down test resulted in roughly 7 hours and 38 minutes, which is marginally better compared to my last test. The interesting thing to note here is that my battery drained from 10% to 3% in less than 10 minutes just from casually web browsing over wi-fi, yet my phone stayed on 1% for well over 25 minutes. What is the cause of this percentage inconsistency?

What troubles me now is that Apple hasn't released an update for this issue at all, and makes me greatly hesitant at purchasing the new iPhone when it comes out in a couple months from now if it becomes plagued with these issues.

FYI: Different Wifi protocols, connection speeds and settings on your router can greatly vary the battery life. Basically the older and slower your Wifi router / signal the more power is consumed.

No, I'm not claiming my wi-fi connection is exactly the same as theirs during their iphone test. Interference should be minimal, as it's a password-protected network restricted to the confines of my house. I suppose distance to the router could be a factor, but I have an airport station of every floor of my house. Regardless, the differences between wi-fi connection/distance shouldn't have much of an impact here considering the disparity of the phone settings. In other words, the fact that many phone functions are disabled for me (notifications, location services) compared to the default phone settings (more notifications and location services would be enabled in the Apple test) in their test should cancel out any wi-fi network interference on the battery. That's just my view, though.

Regardless, I'll be visiting the store this weekend. Casually messaging people or browsing email in airplane mode seems to drain the battery at least 1% every 3 minutes, if not more than that. Even in sleep mode the phone loses at least 3% hourly. I suppose my battery may be displaying wear and tear symptoms after a year of owning the phone, but I suspect something else is at fault here. I'll keep updating my battery times as the days progress.
