iOS 6.1.3 battery drainage

The number of views is simple count of any activity on the forum: Page changes, reloading a page, replying, editing, viewing attachments and links etc. etc. The total views is always an artificially high number compared to how many actual unique viewers have viewed a forum. The number of replies is also misleading due to the same users posting multiple replies, it does not represent the total number of unique users who have replied, that number will always be much lower. For example: Thai_iPhony4 probably accounts for 100 of the total replies because he can't grasp the simple concept of combining multiple responses in a single reply....

If you ever really read CNET you will see direct quotes from these forums. So yes including cnet they get 99% of their content from these forums.

Of course you would. I suspect they will put a battery bug in iOS 7 too just to be the hot topic of the tech news sites. Of course they have the magical ability to ONLY effect a few users with any particular update so they could easily do that without effecting all 200,000,000 of their devices out there. Makes since to me.

So if people complaint of battery issues and data issues after every iOS update, my theory is origin right once again. IOS BLOWS.

Maybe apple can get a clue and push updates that don't require us to reset and restore and do god knows what else.

And what about MY issue? Any thoughts? Why would it be at 99% after 3 minutes. Restart. Then it's back at 100% and stays there for 16 minutes?

I have someone here with a brand new iPhone 5. All she does is LINE and Facebook. Her phone is dead in 5 hours. Her first iphone. So, she doesn't use anything else. No iCloud or anything.

Difference between you and her. She has no WiFi.

so I did a test last night. I did a hard reset on my phone. Put it on airplane mode. Went to bed at 11:30 with 50% battery. Woke up at 6:00 with 11%.

Anyone still believe that the ios 6.1.3 battery drain is a myth?

Yes. I understand your frustration.

It is nothing that you did as a user. All you did was update your phone and nothing else. Now it's going crazy.

These forums are full of fanboys that will tell you it's only is, the other 100 million people who updated have no privlems, so that means there is no problem.

Basically, you and all of us who know there is an issue will just have to tough it out.

I will tell you to hang in there until iOS 7.0. I think their .0 releases are OK. Then don't ever update it. That's the only thing I can say at this point because there is really no fix for this problem.

There are work arounds that may make it a bit better for a while, but no fixes.

Don't listen to the pile of BS replies that is about to come. They don't care about you or me. They are like Trekkies only about Apple stuff.

It may be that, because now they have to support multiple devices, their blanket iOS updates work for some devices and causes problems for other devices. Maybe the chances of having an issue with an iPhone 5 are less than us with an iPhone 4S.

Maybe this is apple's way to make us buy their new phones. Just like they totally screwed people with the iPhone 3G. Remember when iOS 4 came out? It made the 3G useless. They then "fixed it" but if you talk to a 3G user they will tell you their phone was never the same again.

You can stick to Apple iPhones if you want to; but to be honest; if you just look at only the things you care about the most there are cheaper devices and last really all day long that work beautifully. They just do what you need and that's it. Like the Lumia 720, or maybe even the upcoming HTC First?

Some people just do Facebook with their iPhones. They could get an HTC First. I'm sure it'll last all day long. Who needs dual quad core and super graphics to do Facebook and LINE? And browse the Internet. Specs are boloney.

That's good to know. At least the percentage reader isn't faulty. It's interesting how Apple doesn't list the maximum battery time for 4G browsing for iphone 4s. They claim it can last up to 9 hours using wi-fi, yet during my tests I turned on airplane mode and solely used wi-fi for at least half of my total usage time. Based on my tests, the battery didn't last nearly as long as they claim, given the defecit was at least 90 minutes. Having airplane mode on the whole time may help a bit more, but that's not really a viable option when it disables the phone function.

I personally think 10-12 hours of battery life while using the phone lightly should be the bare minimum, but perhaps my stats are normal for the iphone 4s. I suppose I should just hope the new iPhone will improve the battery life.

Here you go. They list 3G as 6hrs (its the same deal) ATT calls their enhanced 3G "4G" for whatever reason. Just confuses folks.

Thanks for the information, but there are certain things I'm still concerned with. I would imagine 4G would still drain the battery a bit quicker, as that network loads data on the Internet marginally faster compared to 3G, even if it is the same deal. Wouldn't it be the same thing in comparing LTE to 4G on the iphone 5? Whichever networking service loads the data quicker drains the battery quicker?

What interests me is how Apple goes about testing the battery time for certain things. They've given us numbers, but not specific information about how they used the phone while testing it. For example, screen brightness, how many apps are open at one time, push notifications, location services, etc...Those factors are unknown to us. The only thing I really have to go off of is their Macbook Pro battery testing conditions. They claim they test the battery with 50% screen brightness and casually surfing the Internet and writing in word documents. Applying that here, I simply don't see why I'm not getting up to 9 hours on wi-fi when I used my phone almost entirely on airplane mode. They can't possibly have employed any other battery-saving trick than what I'm doing, as I've essentially disabled all of those unnecessary features with my screen brightness at less than 50%. I just think I should be getting battery life closer to their projected wi-fi limit when I'm using it as lightly as possible.

4G on iPhone 4s is not LTE. Its enhanced 3g (effectively the same as 3G). Here is info on how Apple does their testing. Not quite the answers you are looking for but.........
