I have been experiencing the exact same issue...it will work sometimes and other times I have to press it multiple times or extremely hard.

There is a hardware warranty that should still be in effect for you...definitely worth calling about ASAP.

Apparently there is 90 days left on mine, and I bought my iPhone 5 the week it was released.

They said to definitely bring it into the Apple store and as it is a hardware issue they are replacing it....i will let you know the official outcome after my Genius appointment.

Hi guys i'm having the exact same issue, as many of us apparatly and it seems to be more of us everyday. The thing about mine is that it happens "only" like 2 times out of 10, and on a daily basis it's really annoying as you probably know, but i'm affraid i'll be laughed at if i take it to an AS and they don't find it damaged "enough". The problem showed up like a month ago, and it worsen over time. I still have like 90 days of warranty left, but i don't know what to do, should i bring it now and the risk of should i wait for it to get worse ?

What do you think ? Thanks for your feedback

Very frustrating to say the least ! I posted a reply about it on this feed a few days ago (which you can see above) and today it turns out that it's completely unfunctional on the right side, indeed. But I don't wanna have to pay attention which side i'm pressing when i want my 700$ phone on or off ! Taking it to an AS ASAP. Hopefully the next one won't have the issue...

I just started having the same issue. Here's my concern: I have a fairly expensive screen protector on my current phone (Spigen Glas.tr) and hate the idea of having to buy a new screen protector (they're about $40). Does anybody know whether Apple would cover a new screen protector to replace the old one if the phone has to be replaced?

I purchased my iPhone 5 in January and started having this problem with the power button in April (took 2-4 attempts to turn on/off). The problem got worse the past couple of weeks (5+ attempts required), and now the power button doesn't work at all. I'll be attempting to visit an AS this weekend for possible replacement. FWIW, I recommend trying to get a replacement while you have a chance -- the power button problem can worsen over time.

My phone's button stopped responding at all. So go exchange it while you can. A work around using the button is to turn on the "assistive touch" which makes u use the button thru the touch screen

Go to Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Assistive Touch -> On

This will give u a circular area on the screen and thru this circle you will be able to do all the functions of the physical buttons.

Circle -> Device -> Lock Screen

Closes the phone
