*** Apple Store Replaced 14 days past Warranty because had Brought in Previously During Warranty for Power Button Issue ***

My iPhone 5 power button was frustratingly intermittent about 3 months after purchase in July 2013. Took the iPhone in to Apple Store last December with the issue. They said a full iOS re-install and reset (phone memory wiped clean) would fix the problem. They performed the reset, but still had power button problem.

My serial number did not qualify the phone for recall program replacement. Still took the phone in to same Apple Store 14 days past warranty with the same issue. Technician placed it on an Apple power button test fixture which confirmed that my unit had "issues with the left side of power button". They normally would not replace it under warranty, however they eventually gave me a new iPhone 5 because the records showed it had been brought in December 2013 with the power button issue. YMMV
