Hey guys ! I also have the same issue: my power/lock button is faulty and only works after being pressed between 8 and 12 times. I also can't turn my phone off as the button won't let me! My phone is only 8 months old so is still under the one year warranty but was not manufactured before March 2013... Does this mean my button can't be replaced or that my phone can't be fixed/refurbished?

Thanks for the prompt response! I put my serial number in and it said it wasn't made prior to then so no further action could be made with regards to the replacement programme, but I'm glad I can still get the phone serviced. Is it possible to back up my phone with icloud in store, or is it vital that I do this at home before popping in for the appointment?

So now Apple have a recall program for thw sleep/wake button problem but if you use this good luck.

I sent my iphone 5 off to have the sleep/wake button repaired but because there was a mark on the case I received an email stating it would cost £145 so I had the iphone returned and took it to a local technician who repaired it for £50.

I have complained to Apple, even emailing Tim Cook but they just keep saying it was in the terms & conditions of the recall.

It seems they use any excuse so that they can avoid paying!

I brought my phone in today and they had no trouble with giving me a loaner phone. The Apple employee said that I was the 9th one that came into the store today. He also said that he felt badly about how Apple handled this problem, how they had to deny any knowledge of the problem for months before Apple issued the official recall. Problem is that the replacement phone they gave me is a dud. I didn't have any issues with it when I was just surfing the first few hours with the phone. However, I'm home now and trying to load a few key apps I need to for work (I've got a 32GB and loaner is only 16 - not worth hassle of restore), and the replacement phone keeps crashing and rebooting every 5-10 minutes. Great! Really instills a whole lot of confidence in Apple products... The Apple store is about 30 minutes out of the way even when I'm at work, so looks like I might have to try to live with this bum phone for the 6-9 days they said it would take to get my phone back. Ugh!

It turned out to be a problem with the phone itself. I brought it back to the Apple Store and they said it was going into a "panic mode" but wasn't able to come out of it successfully so it kept resetting itself. They gave me a new loaner phone that worked just fine but the very next day, I received an e-mail saying my iPhone had be fixed so I could pick it up! I dropped it off on a Sunday, went to the Apple Store again on Wed to get a replacement loaner phone and then back again on Sat to pick my phone back up. Three times in less than a week and the store is ~40 min away. 😟 The nice thing is that my phone had a skin on it which was removed when they repaired my phone. My husband asked one of the sales people about that and they ended up putting a new skin on my phone at no cost. All in all, a nice experience at the Apple Store but I wish I knew my phone would have been repaired so quickly so I didn't go back to get a new loaner. I was originally told 5-9 business days.

I had this problem happen about 2 months ago and figured I would just replace the cable within the phone myself since I was out of warranty and didn't know about the replacement program because you know of course apple didn't really make this public (why would they?)... Anyways the cable failed after two months (not sure if it was a faulty cable or the phone itself had something to do with it) but I bring it into the apple store for the program and the "genius" tries to make me feel like I owe him something for taking my phone in even after I did the repair myself and is a complete inconvenience to me having to trade in my phone for a week because of a faulty apple problem. I left the store and realized the home button to the loaner didn't work so I go back and get another loaner and this "genius" blames it on bad luck and also states that I am lucky the previous "genius" even took my phone in. When I got home with this loaner I realize the lightening port only works at certain angles and will not sync with my computer... Yes I'm a very lucky one in this case! Needless to say I will be shopping for a different phone company after being with apple for 7 years
