My phone's button stopped responding at all. So go exchange it while you can. A work around using the button is to turn on the "assistive touch" which makes u use the button thru the touch screen

Go to Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Assistive Touch -> On

This will give u a circular area on the screen and thru this circle you will be able to do all the functions of the physical buttons.

Circle -> Device -> Lock Screen

    Closes the phone

As long as there is no user damage you will get a replacement which will be like new

Wait to after 12 months you would have to pay ..............

It is a no-brainer get it replaced

Well, same is the problem with me. But I got this phone as a gift from my bro who lives in CANADA. Power button is creating a problem for me. I don't have my iPhone 5 bill with me. Some one please help.

Warranty is not international if the iPhone came from Canada it can only be serviced there warranty or post warranty

If you are not in Canada you will have to send it to your relation for them to get it sorted and then return it to you

Just thought I'd throw in my two cents.  My power button had issues, so I took my iPhone to the Apple Store and all they did was replace the power button flex cable.  It took less than 15 minutes.  They said that if I was beyond my 1 year warranty, it would cost $29.  So make sure you guys get this replaced before your warranty expires!

Goog news if you are in US ,this is a WW forum and it is essential to qualify .That service is not available outside NA so depends on where the OPs are

Another work around I used for awhile (until I had the phone replaced at an Apple Store for free) was to simply use the home button to turn on the phone, and then in Settings I checked off the option to have the phone shut off automatically after being idle 1 minute.  Probably not as convenient a system as what Roukas described, but another option I thought I'd throw out there . . .

Interesting diagnosis on the "power button flex cable".  I (and I believe others) were told by Apple Store that the only solution was to replace the entire phone.  Assuming a phone replacement is a much greater cost to Apple than replacement of a flex cable, perhaps we are discussing different issues (power button versus home button?).  Of course, I may not have the latest terminology right anyway . . .

Yikes! You are absolutely right! I meant the home button, sorry for the confusion everybody!

No way to tell, they use a service replacement unit which could be new or could be a refurb.

I have the same problem... but aparently my guarantee doesn't work, as the Apple service just wrote me an email that they found proof of watterdamage.... what is strange as I have never wattered my iPhone.... generally I'm thinking on swithching to Xperia

  • wegras Level 6 (15,070 points)

then take it to an Apple Store genius bar and if correct they will show you the water damage

the iphone 5 is less than a year old. so it should still be in warranty...
