I am worndering can i take it to Apple and have them replace it for me? I had have my Iphone 5 for a little more then a year and my warrenty is out of date. Anyone kno if i can still get a replacement?  Bought the iphone5 couple of months after it came out, full price out the door and using it for T-mobile

All iPhones come with a one year warranty.

Take the device to your local Apple store or call 800-MY-APPLE to arrange a replacement.

I have been experiencing the exact same issue...it will work sometimes and other times I have to press it multiple times or extremely hard.

There is a hardware warranty that should still be in effect for you...definitely worth calling about ASAP.

Apparently there is 90 days left on mine, and I bought my iPhone 5 the week it was released.

They said to definitely bring it into the Apple store and as it is a hardware issue they are replacing it....i will let you know the official outcome after my Genius appointment.

Hi guys i'm having the exact same issue, as many of us apparatly and it seems to be more of us everyday. The thing about mine is that it happens "only" like 2 times out of 10, and on a daily basis it's really annoying as you probably know, but i'm affraid i'll be laughed at if i take it to an AS and they don't find it damaged "enough". The problem showed up like a month ago, and it worsen over time. I still have like 90 days of warranty left, but i don't know what to do, should i bring it now and the risk of should i wait for it to get worse ?

What do you think ? Thanks for your feedback

    This is a known issue.

I had the same problem and my phone was replaced today.

iPhone 5 was released in Sept, warranty is 1 yr. so take it to an apple store and they will replace with a new iPhone 5 (if they have it in stock).

I am having the same issue, but after fiddling with it I realized that if you press the power button on its right side it won't work, but pressing it on the left side it will work

very frustrating to have this issue with a VERY expensive phone!

Very frustrating to say the least ! I posted a reply about it on this feed a few days ago (which you can see above) and today it turns out that it's completely unfunctional on the right side, indeed. But I don't wanna have to pay attention which side i'm pressing when i want my 700$ phone on or off ! Taking it to an AS ASAP. Hopefully the next one won't have the issue...

I just started having the same issue.  Here's my concern: I have a fairly expensive screen protector on my current phone (Spigen Glas.tr) and hate the idea of having to buy a new screen protector (they're about $40).  Does anybody know whether Apple would cover a new screen protector to replace the old one if the phone has to be replaced?

    No, of course not.

Hey guys I have the same problem so if apple replaces my iPhone will I start a new contract with my carrier (it's Verizon).

  • Mizval Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

No new contract. Just a new phone.

I purchased my iPhone 5 in January and started having this problem with the power button in April (took 2-4 attempts to turn on/off). The problem got worse the past couple of weeks (5+ attempts required), and now the power button doesn't work at all. I'll be attempting to visit an AS this weekend for possible replacement. FWIW, I recommend trying to get a replacement while you have a chance -- the power button problem can worsen over time.

Update: I ended up taking it in to the apple store and they replaced it on site. He said its a known issue and progressively gets worse. I had 50 days left until my warranty expired, so lucky me.

I found that this solution worked for me as well (pressing left side of power button instead of the right). I'm hesitant to take it back after owning mine for less than a year with the impending 5S on its way... I'll take it to Apple today and see what they say, then post a reply back here when I return.
