Sony Ericsson m600i - iSync

I have recently gotten my hands on the most perfect phone for me; the Sony Ericsson m600i. UMTS & triband GSM.

However, it does not sync with OS X.

I have managed to get it paired with OS X, as well as getting it recognised with iSync, but when the isync app is being installed on the phone, the phone complains that the app installation script is no longer supported (this is a UIQ3.0 phone).

Please, please help. I am replacing my ipaq 4700 with this phone, but I need the address book and the calendar.

Thank you in advance.

Hans E.

It is boring, but according to the P990 white paper "Meeting requests can be sent from the Calendar application via email. Meeting invitations can be received by email and added in to Calendar." - so as a workaround till iSync or a third party get their act together.
Also you could use your google calendar:
1. Google Calendar's SMS-notification option allows you to conveniently check your calendar just by sending a quick text message
2. browse google calendar with 3g or wifi

I also own the M600i, a fantastic mobile. I got past the sync problems by syncing against an exchange server and using Entourage on my Macs! As far as file copying concerns, you can use the Bluetooth functionality!
You can get an Exchange Account from many providers, I personally use www.4smartphone.net and I am very happy with it.
To sync against Exchange Server, you first need to download the Exchange Active Sync software for the M600i, available for free on the Sony Ericsson web site.

I've set up a Personal Exchange account with mail2web. However, after wasting several hours I have come to the conclusion that I don't understand what it's all about. I'm not certain I've got the settings right, or that it will even do what I intend. If I create a contact or a meeting in entourage it puts it on the local computer rather than the exchange server. The exchange server seems to only appear when I click on the email icon. I've also tried switching on sync with iCal yet nothing happens.

this whole alien world is driving me mad. Can anyone help me out?

An Exchange Account is just an Email account hosted on a Microsoft Exchange Server System. Exchange Server has the "Exchange Active Sync" feature with which allows synchronization with mobile devices running the Active Sync Client. This client is mostly found on Pocket PCs but now more and more devices running a Symbian OS have the client.

Entourage should be configured to use an Exchange Server account. Then on the mobile device the user has also to configure the exchange server connection.
The M600i phone doesnt have the Active Sync Client by default but it is available for free on the Sony Ericsson web site. You will have first to download it and then configure it!
iSync doesnt have anything to do with this type of synchronization...
Entourage syncs against the Exchange Server mailbox, so does the M600i. There is no direct syncronization between Entourage and the M600i.

Something wierd has just happened. While browsing the internet, I suddenly noticed that a whole load of stuff appeared in Entourage, a mail box, calendar etc. I'm assuming this thing must be very slow, and didn't even give any indication that it was thinking about doing something.

I know iSync has nothing to do with the Exchange Server. However, all my contacts and calendars are in Address Book and iCal, and Entourage has a section in it's preferences to sync with iCal etc. Therefore what I need is for my calendars to go iCal ---> Entourage --->Exchange server ---> M600i.

I generally hate Microsoft software, so Entourage is only a temporary solution. I want to keep everything in iCal and Address book, but for now I will have that Sync with Entourage so it can communicate with the Exchange Server. Unfortunately, even though I tell entourage to Sync with iCal, nothing ever seems to happen. None of my appointments have appeared in Entourage from iCal so far.

Oh well, I give up. I exported my calendars in iCal, then imported them into the Entourage calendar within iCal (to merge them), then sync with Entourage, this sync'd to Exchange Server. Installed Exchange Activesync on the M600i, but got an error during installation. In calendars on the M600i some of the events were there, but many missing.

This is more trouble than it's worth, I think I'll just wait for Apple to pull their thumbs out and update iSync.

P L E A S E - Apple, don't wait for the next OS X update to release the iSync update. The lack of frequent iSync updates is incredibly frustrating.

I simply want to join the chorus in asking Apple, PLEASE develop iSync so we can use it with the Sony Ericsson m600i. It is a great little phone, and while we wait for Apple to bring out a phone/PDA combination, this one is nearly perfect because it has style and G3. Shame there is no WiFi. John

You need the professional account which also provides sync capabilities with Outlook 2003/Entourage.
4Smartphone lets you use your existing email address by forwarding all the email to the new "transparent" account that 4smartphone creates. For example I use the petvas@mac email address hosted on .mac
My 4smartphone email is sth lie mac_01pvas01@4smartphone.net.
In your user preferences you can configure email forwarding so that all mail is automatically forwarded to the smartphone account. When you send email through this account, the return address is your real one. This way you have the privilege of push email and calendar/tasks sync with any email address!
