Sony Ericsson m600i - iSync

I have recently gotten my hands on the most perfect phone for me; the Sony Ericsson m600i. UMTS & triband GSM.

However, it does not sync with OS X.

I have managed to get it paired with OS X, as well as getting it recognised with iSync, but when the isync app is being installed on the phone, the phone complains that the app installation script is no longer supported (this is a UIQ3.0 phone).

Please, please help. I am replacing my ipaq 4700 with this phone, but I need the address book and the calendar.

Thank you in advance.

This is what I found out finally (no need for exchange server), any of you may want to give a try:

What you need:
1. mac running OSX
2. SE M600i
3. a PC running windows
4. your previous phone that can sync with your mac

Steps:
1. Sync your mac with your previous phone (iCal and Address Book)
2. Sync your previous phone with the PC
3. Sync your PC with your M600i
4. It works another way round

Wish it may help.

I've been using iSync with Sony Ericsson phones for long enough to be fairly confident the M600i will be supported. It's just a shame it isn't supported NOW.

Although I haven't exactly pushed my M600i to it's limits, I am very happy with it's performance and reliability. It is a significant improvement over the P910i which I was using for about 9 months before getting the M600i.

Thanks for the info.

Just wondering how you managed to set up the broadband connection?

Here's what I did:
- installed Ross Barkman Sony Ericsson 3G scripts ( http://www.taniwha.org.uk/)
- entered t-mobile network details (from Barkman, and from Sony Ericsson's sms based service, double checked with a number of other websites) into system preferences > network
- entered configuration for both USB and bluetooth
- tested the various scripts via either network port

Result in system log: "Error: Unable to start connection"

Since that immediately and invariably happens, I suspect there might be something wrong with the way the M600i links with my Mac?

Hope this isn't too off-topic, and thanks in advance

One other work around for the iSync issue: you can import back-ups from the m600i into iCal.

more here: http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=937904

How to:
On the m600i, go Calendar > More > Calendar Manager > Backup
Make sure bluetooth is switched on, and that the phone has been paired with the Mac
On the Mac, go Applications > Utilities > Bluetooth File Exchange.app
In Bluetooth File Exchange.app, go File > Browse Device > [your phone's name]
Navigate to: External D/Other/Backup/Agenda/[your calendar name].vcs
Click get
Put it somewhere memorable on the mac
On the mac, double click the .vcs file
Select a good calendar to import the data into

Still not ideal, granted, but it would fit my usage patterns reasonably well: keep travel events on the m600i, and export to dedicated mac calendar. Scribbled appointments on the m600i can be copied to the right calendar on the Mac without retyping.

Wonder whether the plug-in people can make use of the 'restore' function on the phone to get Mac -> M600i synchronisation working. Would still be a palaver, though.

Just to answer my own question: the issues I had in connecting with any phone must have been some kind of fluke. A repair of permissions didn't help, but a restart did.

Connecting to the M600i over USB still doesn't work, but the 3G bluetooth connection I managed pulled more than 100 kbs, which is pretty near the 3G max. For completeness' sake, and anyone else who uses t-mobile in the UK:

Use Ross Barkman's sony ericsson 3G scripts and included instructions: http://www.taniwha.org.uk/files/SonyEricsson3G-2005-01.sit

From them, Sony Ericsson 3G CID 3 worked for me, lower numbers didn't

In the 'bluetooth modem' tab, Uncheck 'Enable error correction ...' and 'Wait for dial tone...'

In the PPP tab, don't worry if the requisite four character password ("pass") gets multiplied to 23 asterisks once you hit 'apply now' This seems to be normal. Ditto the ten asterisks (or balls) in the internet connect window. The telephone number is indeed 'general.t-mobile.uk' (not a number, nor 'general.t-mobile.co.uk'). Account name is 'user'. Curiously enough, in the 'PPP options' pop-up, enabling 'Send PPP echo packets' didn't make a difference for me. YMMV

I had try it : backup from M600i to address book.
I'd got the backup file from M600i by Bluetooth exchange
but when I open the contacts.vcf , address book said there's only 33 contacts in this contacts.vcf. It should be 800+.
why?
