Sony Ericsson m600i - iSync

I have recently gotten my hands on the most perfect phone for me; the Sony Ericsson m600i. UMTS & triband GSM.

However, it does not sync with OS X.

I have managed to get it paired with OS X, as well as getting it recognised with iSync, but when the isync app is being installed on the phone, the phone complains that the app installation script is no longer supported (this is a UIQ3.0 phone).

Please, please help. I am replacing my ipaq 4700 with this phone, but I need the address book and the calendar.

Thank you in advance.

Meh, got sick and tired of SE being so behind schedule on the P990i, and doesn't it even only have 802.11b?

Got the Nokia E70 US edition (E70-2), much happier. It has 802.11g, works correctly with IMAP and self-signed certs, and is currently supported by iSync (+ mactomster.de plugin with a tiny bit o' hackin').

Now if only the Nickname field were sync'd, since the E70 voice recognition uses either full name or nickname for voice dial...

How do you like it. I went today to purchase the E61 and they were out in three different stores. I have had enough from SE and their lack of support, their lack of following or changing standards, and plain lack of listening to their customers. I am going to forward this thread to all trade magazines that I can think of. SE has passed the buck long enough. I have to admit that I owe Apple an apology on this one as they are not at fault.

Hey Don,

very good german. i´am very well.

I understood your attemp to produce pression at se and apple.
I have seen the e61, it look like an good worthy replacement, but i won´t gave up - i hope apple will react after the form attac? (if anybody make the 10 forms other than me 🙂 )

Salut

P.S. your english is much better and your german is better than my finish (my widget can´t translate to finish?! :-/

@Jacques

I know. I will be out of here by December. My project is almost done so I am just wrapping things up now.

As for the M600i, you can see that SE has no clue what they are talking about. 3 different answers for the same question. They are lost. I truly hope that the new iPhone or whatever it is will crush SE simply for not taking Mac users serious.

@Bilbo,

Take a look at the Nokia E61, or E70. They are both Symbian. Not UIQ but they work with Mac out of the box and they also have the Nokia user upgrade system now, so upgrades are no longer involve a trip to the shop.

@Nicolai,

Ich war en Deutschland fur uber funfzehn jahren.

I have not spoke German so much now that I am in Kuwait but I can bet by quite well when I am there. As for the M600i, I just gave up. When I saw that SE changes the way it syncs, changed the way it even talks to Mac (no longer supports the USB Mass Storage profile in Mac OS X), I felt that SE has given up on Mac users. As you can read above, they have pushed the blame off onto Apple to solve.

Jacques,

You do not understand. Apple is not responsible to provide the solution. SonyEricsson is responsible. They made the phone. Maybe, maybe Apple might decide to make a sync agent but they are under no obligation to do so. Who do you think is responsible to provide drivers for your printer? Apple or the printer manufacture? See my point. SE let you down on this and I will not give them another penny. They can fold and all go to (lleh <--- backwards) as far as I am concerned.

I understand loud and clear, Don. I am not asking about responsibility, but possibility. Some people are too quick at making accusations and assumptions. Plus: pointing fingers - as we are clearly shown by this case - is not getting us an inch further.

Apple does include certain drivers / sync agents in their updates - so again: is it 100% sure that the sync for M600 will not be included in the next OS? Where did that info come from?

I do not know but over on Esato they state the same thing, that there will not be a driver for the M600i but in another thread, someone said it would be. Go figure. I have a question for you. Have you been able to mount your M600i or P990i in Finder? One guy in Esato said that he does it all the time but SE says that it is not possible because the USB Mass Storage profile is only supported under Windows. SE changed the way the USB MS profile works. I hate SE right about now.

End of anti-SE rant.

Hmmm.. One says yes, one says no - nobody seems to really know anything. We'll just have to wait and see.

No. I haven't tried to mount the phone. What I did try was to upgrade the phone's firmware using XP (bootcamp). But that didn't work. The phone mounts fine - as it should. Has anyone been able to upgrade M600 firmware via bootcamp or how do you do it?
